Continental ContiProContact SSR?

I found a couple of posts several months ago asking about this tire. I have an unrepairable puncture (sidewall) in my OEM rf's. I like the rf's and would like to keep them, and the price ($111 at TireRack) is awfully attractive. Does anyone have them and can you share your thoughts?

Thanks.

Yes, I have them on my 07. They are awesome so far. They ride nice. They don't make noise on the highway (where I do most of my driving). I love them as an all-season tire. Oh yeah, mine are on 17 inch wheels. I've been pretty impressed so far.

How's the grip? I like the grip of my Goodyear RFs but $380/tire is really making me reconsider them.

I bought a set of 4 from the Tire Rack, but don't have them mounted yet- probably just the back for now (at 19k on the original Dunlops, one difficult to impossible to fix puncture is forcing me to replace one before it's worn out). Will probably get the first two mounted on the back this weekend and post some feedback. For $500 including tax and shipping for a set of 4 for the Continentals, I couldn't justify nearly twice as much for the Dunlops, let alone something more expensive.

I just ordered 4 of these, should be in Friday. There is a current deal where you get a free digital photo album.

I got a problem with one of the tires... I had my car aligned but it was going left... then they switched the 2 fronts around and it started going right... TR sent a 5th to replace it... I gotta do that tomorrow...

Where are you getting these tires? I've been trying to find them in stock for over a week now and everybody I've spoken with (Tire Rack included) tells me they are backordered and Conti hasn't provided their next manufacture date so they cannot even estimate a delivery date.

I ordered mine last Monday and they arrived last Friday from TR. So far so good. Ride is nicer then the stockers and they are great in the rain.

BTW I got 28,050 on my stock dunlop 5000s but they were skins.

Just got the bad tire replaced yesterday... good to go now... FedEx is coming to get the bad one and ship it back to TR on their dime.

I only got 22K on my dunlops and would of went a little longer but couldn't pass annual inspection

Looks like TR is out of stock now... LouisianaEstimated 11/01/07

I have the ContiProContact SSRs in 195/55R16 on my '07 MC. They work well in dry and wet conditions -- but they can break loose on highways with gentle curves -- if the pavement is broken. They will grab the ground again, once the car straightens out, but those few milliseconds of sideways movement can be unnerving, particularly in heavy traffic.

I have not yet driven these on snow, and may never do so. I have ordered a set of Blizzak REVO 1s in 185/65R15 as winter replacements.

with about 3.5mm left on all 4 tires, I was told to start thinking about new tires. I currently have Goodyear Eagle RS-A EMT 205/45-17 runflats. I'm going to stick with runflats but probably switch to Continental ContiProContact SSR. Here's comparison from Tire Rack. Is there any reason not to make the switch? Thanks!

I have the 205/45/17 Contis on my JCW. They were on the car when I bought it. I like them, but have no point of reference for comparison. I like the way they handle and they aren't grossly noisy. Can't see spending more money for a RF street tire.

YMMV, I've only had the car 2.5 weeks.

In the 2.5 years since I originally posted in this thread, I've gone through the set of Conti's, replacing 2 at a time. Just finished off the fronts at the Dragon. I like them, good replacements for the Dunlops that came as original equipment, but at $150+ each and 20-25k miles, mainly for financial reasons I'm switching to non-RF's. I love the RF's, but decided the money isn't worth it.

I have the Conti SSR in 205/55/16 on my '06 MCS. Had them mounted a couple of months ago. I like them, particularly in light of the terrible roads in this neck of the woods. On the MA forum there's a thread.

Ouch! I need to pay more attention to post dates.

Good that you liked them though. Not sure if I'm going to want to shell out the big bucks to replace them when the time comes.

What are you replacing them with if you don't mind saying?

I like to recycle old threads with relevant titles.

Thanks for the replies. I'll be switching to the Contis when it's time. I've had to replace two tires because of screws. Each time it was $400-$450 to replace one tire at my MINI dealer. So, while I like the protection of the runflats, I wanted to find a cheaper option and the Contis had better reviews than my current runflats.

I went with the Falken Ziex ZE-912, good price and reasonable reviews. Ok so far, but I'm also a believer in you get what you pay for. Only mounted on the rear so far, so more accurate assessment will have to wait until I have the fronts installed and drive for awhile.
