How Much Power Does The 10 Speaker Hi-Fi Amp Put Out?

I'm planning on ordering my MINI with the 10 Speaker setup and then, later on, upgrading everything. I'm planning on using my JL 300/4 amp for the front 3-ways, my JL 500/1 for whatever sub I go with in the cargo area, and hopefully bridging the stock amp to just power the 2-way 6x9's.

Thus I'm wondering how much power the stock amp puts out.

NOTE: Don't worry, I'll be upgrading all of the speakers to something appropriately power hungry. ANY SUGGESTIONS? I've had Dynaudio and JL components in the past but see that plenty of people on here are into Focal. I don't know anything about Focal or why they seem to be popular with the MINI folk.

Cheers.

Brad,

Interesting that you make this post. I'm embarking on building a fiberglass sub box for the passenger side rear cubby hole tomorrow. I'm going to construct just under a cuft box for a JLAudio 10W3v2. I'm going to power it with a JLAudio 500/1. I'm going to run Focal 165K2P's up front and not going to power the POS 6/9's in the rear. It will be front stage only, but you'll hear it in the car behind you, so there won't be any need for "rear fills". (What a waste of time and money!)

I also will be powering the Focal's with a JLAudio 300/4 which will be bridged to 2 channels for the fronts. I personally can vouch for Focals as no matter what your price range, you will get the clearest vocals that you can ever imagine. You also need to realize that you get what you pay for in Focals.

I bought mine online and received them today. I verified the serial number as Focal is kind of skittish about online sales, with all of the counterfit/grey market sales going on. These are the real deals and if they were counterfits, they are an exact replica. I'll be happy to let you know how this install works out.

Also, tweeter placement is one of the keys to quality setup. I'm not sure where to place it. A-pillers or in the anterior most position of the door trim. I don't know what's behind the panels yet.

PS: Can you tell that I'm a huge, huge, huge fan of Focal's. I landed the K2P's for just over $500 online and can give you the sellers info if you'd like.

Charlie,
Are you making a mold for the passenger side cubby sub box your making??? If so, I'd be interested in buying one from you?? (a box, not the mold!) Or are you just making a 1 off box??

I'm suprised nobody commercial has already done this, there is a LOT of space on that side already, a small add on box sticking out a little bit would make a perfect sub space there.

The other box that its on the floor (fake floor...) is nice and sounds great, but it just kills the boot for storage which is a no-can-do for me.

The stock amp puts out 40w to the 4 largest speakers. At least that is what is claimed.

I wouldn't attemp to bridge the stock amp.

Actually the false floor takes up the least usable boot space. You still have full width and you only lose ~2-3" depth which has not affected my storage at all.

Brad,
There is a million thread on that, nobody seems to know. The manual and other places say a total of 230watts. But some other places add up to 250, some 200, one 330..... In anycase, there's not enough bass!! Now stop trying to hijack the thread!!!

Motormouth,
BUT, you can't use ANY of that space when almost the entire "floor" is a speaker you can't place anything on/cover and block the sound. My problem is I store a large breifcase/laptop case in the boot everyday on way to work. That will kill the bass.

I cna see if you placed something flat directly on top of the speaker that it would affect it. I've been able to carry anything I've had a hankering to so far including 4 tires and rims. I even had one of the tires roll right on top of the speaker grill and everything was fine. Couldn't you put your breifcase to one side?

The MINIUSA site lists the power output at 310 watts total - 4X40 for the bass speakers, 2X25 for the mids, and 4X25 for the tweeters. That's most likely peak power, so figure about 150W RMS for comparison purposes.

I'd say 150W rms with a tailwind is about correct.
On the focal note.... I'm a dealer for them so my opinion may be biased, but honestly if you're paying that much for a speaker, wouldn't you like a warranty for a few bucks more? I know they're expensive but some piece of mind goes a long way!

My $.02,
Josh
