Front door speakers- components or a 6.5" and a 3.5"?

Hello All,

Here's my dilemma:

I have the stock boost system (non-Hi-Fi). I want to upgrade the audio system and I am starting with the speakers. The 3 component Focals are nice, but out of my budget, so I need some opinions:

1. Get a set of 6.5" component speakers and put the tweeter where the 3.5" stock speaker is.
or:
2. Get a 6.5" two-way and a 3.5" two-way and just put them in the factory spots.

This is my first step in upgrades, later on I plan to add an amplifier with a sound processor, so I can retain the stock head unit.

If I go with the stock style set up of the 6.5 and 3.5 can I wire it up in such a way to power all 6 speakers from a 4-channel amp? Say, if the 2 in the doors are both 4 ohm and wired in parallel (and I get a 2-ohm stable amp)?

I'm not going to do a sub because I intend to autocross the car and don't want too much weight added.

Thanks in advance.

I'd go with a good quality 2-way component set. Mount the tweeter where the 3.5" goes. Lots of choices for 2-way components. Or you could buy the a-pillars for the tweeters from your dealer and get a 3 way.

How difficult is it to install those a-pillars?

I was thinking about mounting the tweeters in the 3.5 spot as well but wasn't sure if I wanted to make my own mounting "adapter" to fit the smaller tweeter in there. seemed like it would kind of be a hack and slice type of job.

pretty easy to swap out the A pillars. Certainly no harder than pulling them off to change the tweeters.
