Forget VTEC... check THIS out.

When it accelerates, it looks like something from the Benny Hill show, when they speed up the film...

..but it isn't sped up. I think I'd be in danger of swallowing my fillings.

That's amazing. Why does it have flames shooting out of the tail pipe though?

Amazing! Fun!

Flames usually come out the exhaust when the engine is running rich and whatever excess fuel mixture that is left in the exhaust is burnt up. It has to be a straight back pipe (i.e. turboback). One hell of a car!

That is one fantastic Mini! Bill Solis (a super track driver) did comment on the turbo lag. Plus I would think with that power, it would require a straight-cut gearbox and a super differential to stand up to the abuse!

Didn't the guy at the end say that he had a stock gearbox in there? I'd think that straight-cut set would be the only way, given the mammoth torque that thing puts out, but maybe not. I might have misheard or misunderstood that though...

As for the turbo lag - I love what he said about being able to drive it at low RPMs as a driver and then put the hammer down to invoke the turbo... (( wistful sigh ))

Holy torque steer, Batman!

I think the flames are due to the buttons on the shift lever........it was alluded to in the voice over. Plus, it was dumping flames while parked........

Unburned fuel in the exhaust lighting off. Hammer the throttle & lift, loads of unburned fuel hits the hot exhaust & there you have it....FLAMES!!!!

The weak link in that bad little boy has to be the gearbox & half shafts. Holy torque steer batman indeed!!! Gotta love it.

Forget Vtec? 225 bhp is approx 185 whp with out the driveability issues of the turbo. BUT, that said, you gotta love the kid and the car!

LOL... I know. But you gotta admit - that A-series engine, all pimped-out like that had buku character... Jaw dropping, for sure. A VTEC would almost certainly be more dependable and probably would end up costing less (a frightening thought - I have no idea what he spent to build and tune that turbo monster), but a VTEC's really not a Mini any more...

Yep - when it's accellerating away from you and squirming all over the track, it's hilarious...

buku? Your French language skills are astounding.

Momentary OT lapse - when's the book gonna be out? Gotta schedule my all nighter. I plan to be the first kid in line at Barnes & Noble, dress in costume like I did for the Harry Potter release, all that stuff... you gotta see me dressed as Kirin - I could be her twin...

I know a shop in SC that's getting 400+ to the wheels from the B16C Vtec motors. You'd need more tire.

I want one. Sounds like it has straight cut gears. While I love the flames shooting out the exhaust, I'm not sure how the turbo is going to like it.

I can't imagine pushing that much power through an A series block. I remember first seeing that car on the DVD and watching it ice skate it's way down a *straight* portion of track. Yeah, he's got the most power - but how much of that can he actually get to the ground?

The only way to see what kind of lap times it will make is to call Jeremy Clarkson and have the Stig take it around the Top Gear track.... anyone know the number to the BBC?

One of the guys on MiniMania posted that it now has somewhere near 300hp. Between the turbo and the nitrous it sounds like it's strictly a straight line machine!

I didn't once see it go in a straight line

Ditto. Like a sewing machine set on zig-zag. (I'm not knocking it, though.) If I were drag racing this guy (on a track, of course) I'd be asking for the right lane .

what's the reliability of this setup? while it's a very impressive setup, i doubt it will handle the same amount of day in and day out abuse with a vtec setup.
