my (further) thoughts on MINI Power...

I don’t recall is I posted a follow up after I test drove the mini – many members here told me to test drive the mini without the JCW package as the mini had plenty of power. (I will not drive the JCW until my 2008 is delivered, since the dealership didn’t have on in stock) I’ll admit, the Mini was fun and seemingly beaming with power. I was focused on the road and my shifting, first time in 15 years driving a manual (yes, I stalled it once.....leave it alone!). with my attention on the road and my body planted in the seat and deepening with every shift I found myself surprised by the power. I was going just about 10 MPH when the salesman said “get on it” I hit it and even with the traction control the tires broke free for several seconds, I hit a hard second and they surprisingly chirped, again into third good and hard at full throttle and the little bugger chirped third. Fun, indeed. So the second time through the gears, having a more comfortable feel for the car I was focused on the HUGE speedo.....the attained speed was not equivalent to the what I was expecting after feeling the rush.

....I am glad I ordered the JCW. The car seems to give you the feeling that is more powerful than it is. I am not sure if it’s the size, suspension or what – fun no matter how you crack it up. But when I am next to someone (like me) at a light I think I am going to want that 6.5 second 0-60 :-)

Don't want to dissapoint you, but the JCW Cabrio might not give you the 6.5 sec 0 - 60 that you are looking for. MINI's are about curves not stop lights. You'll love it for the curves!

I am sure your right. I read the write-up's on the JCW and its either billed at 6.7 or 6.5. Much like the gas mileage I would expect it to be overstated. None-the-less I am a speed guy....and a convert guy....and a sound guy....Hey! I think I am a Mini guy !! :-)

The weight of the Cabrio is at least 144 lbs heavier than the coupe.
You may not get that 6.5 sec. It will still be quick though.

Hello. Moto Trend did a comparison of the Mini and a GTI and Volvo C30. The Mini Cooper S Pulled a 6.4 0-60

This is non-JCW. I got to assume more power will produce a slightly faster Mini. No? Of course this was not the Cabrio either. Interesting that you say the convertible is heavier - I didn't realize that.

Interesting fuel economy figures in that comparison.

In the "MT Fuel Economy" (whatever that is), the GTI gets 275 mpg.

I think I might have to trade in my MINI!

...

Naaaaah!

I was surprised by the wt difference.
I saw it in the dealer's specification comparison brochure (more like a book)
The motors for the top and the extra torsional reinforcing to compensate for the lack of a roof creates the extra 144 lbs.

6.4 is awesome. That would make the two corners of my mouth smile even more due to the inertia This is one fun fun car. Reminds me of my go-kart I had as a kid.
