Speaker sizes for the R56 w/Hi-Fi upgrade
I've searched, but didn't find, a post stating the sizes of the OEM speakers for the HIFI Upgrade in the R56. Can someone tell me the size for each location? Thanks!
You could PM dneal. He seems to have done a fair amount of delving into the HIFI system.
I can't imagine BMW making different size cutouts in the door panels for the HIFI speakers. That just doesn't jibe with their cost-cutting concerns on the R56.

You may have been the influencing force that got me to look at the Kappas. Although a Kappa in Japanese folklore is a mischievous water sprite known to eat children, but prefers cucumbers.
The choice was down to Focals or Kappas. The Kappas come with two external crossovers, and thus have two sets of connectors -- one for the tweeter, and one for the woofer and mid-range speakers. The 6x9 wiring in the HIFI has a pair of wires for the 6x9 and a pair for the tweeter. Presumably, there is a crossover in the amp. So, I figure I can just connect directly to the Kappas dual inputs without using their external crossovers.

I was considering doing this. Please post when you make the switch and what issues you run into. Although the HIFI sounds pretty good as it is.
I won't be able to tell you about fit issues, if there are any, but I will report any electrical issues.

the pic that is right above your
's? Not sure why you don't see it. I see it in both my post and your quote of me.. They are hosted on imageshack.
Or am I just being dumb and missed what you meant?
Sorry, wasnt on the computer I was at!
WOW!!!
Anyone want to come to Long Island and remove my rear seats, dynamat the back end, and install a small speaker wall (just put in the 2 6x9's or replace with round 6"'s) and add a nice 10" subwoofer and amp? I'll pay for all parts and buy the beer and pizza!!
Common, you know you want to!!!!!

Maybe they're planning to have kids and wanted to see what it would be like.
Seriously, though, I've seen an installation where a nominal sized sub (maybe 10") was installed in the well inside the boot. Looks like it would be worth doing. Anybody done something like that with the HIFI upgrade. Can someone point me to where it would get hooked up (where to connect a crossover, etc.). I know there's an amp back there for the upgrade, so it seems like it should be easy, but I'm an electrical idiot. Robin, are U there?

I hope you used a heat gun... my experience with that stuff has been not so great if you don't use a heat gun and prep the surface properly. Then again I live in south florida where the temperatures are RIDICULOUS, the stuff tends to peel off easier. The heat gunned on parts of my car are not coming off. We also have used map gas torches to put it on customers cars, works real nice and quick.
