Hello everyone,

I am looking for a low cost set of video cameras to mount in my Cooper S. Wireless would be preferable, so I can put one on the rear of my new teardrop camper my Cooper will be towing, but even a pair of wired ones to put on my front and rear bumper would be pretty nice too. My vision is 2-3 cameras linked into a monitor I plan to place on the dash or up in the sun visor.

Does anyone have any suggestions for brands I should look for?

Hmmm I don't know much in this area, but check out vacucams here on nam and there is a link in the vendor directory. I think that they all link to one video camera in the vehicle. Hope this helps.

 

I've played with Swann and Speco Technologies cameras. The Swann cameras I played with where all CMOS based (they do make CCD cameras too) and while they weren't the sharpest picture they would be sufficient for a back-up camera. They all run off 9-12V DC so it should be easy to wire them into a car. Some of the wireless kits have receivers that work off 4 different channels and are switchable so you could run multiple cameras with 1 output device.

All the CMOS cameras I played around with were pretty low cost (somewhere on the order of $30-$50 each). However, they weren't very weather resistant (the cheaper one specifically). There are ones that come in weather-resistant housings, but I don't know how well they work as I never had a reason to leave the ones I bought out in the elements.

 

Costco carried a wireless backup camera that cost around $90. Later I saw the same camera at Walmart around $100.

I put one on my Hummer, and it works great, except for a bit of interference every now and then. The camera has a fisheye lens and is waterproof.
