Ask Jeff Stracco on Motoringfile

Motoringfile is putting together another list of questions for Jeff Stracco. He's the product manager for MINIUSA. I asked will Alabama ever get a dealership. Even though he is the product manager maybe if enough people ask the same question then maybe he can give an answer.

So what do you say? You want to ask the same question to show that there are plenty of MINIs in our state? Here's the link

I asked but I would be willing to bet when the question shows up for Stracco it will only ask about new dealership plans & will have no mention of Alabama

Here's one: Why doesn't MINI know how to make touch up paint available in the US?? Even Yugo knew how to do that.

Any good paint and body shop will sell you a 4oz. bottle of paint usually. The body shop I use, I just give them the # then go pay for it.
Beats a trip to Nashville.

The answers are in.

MF: Will there ever be a dealer in Iowa City/Champaign/Alabama? What is the plan for adding more dealers?
Stracco Speaks: Really this is Saward’s territory, but we’ll continue to add dealers very slowly and carefully. The factory is still pretty limited, so we can’t add more dealers if we can’t get more cars. Following that, if the business case for Iowa City, Champaign or Alabama is better than other areas, than it’s possible.
Any ideas out there to show MINIUSA that there is a future market in Alabama for MINIs to sale? There has to be a business person in the bunch. I figure letting them know MINIs will sale will be a lot better than us just saying we want service. They already have our money so what do they care if we have to drive a long distance for service.

BTW, BMW dealers working on MINIs is out of the question as well.

MF: Will MINIs ever be serviced at BMW dealerships?
Stracco Speaks: We hear this request all the time, and we have considered opening up the servicing of MINI vehicles outside the existing network. However, after careful consideration, we’ve come to the conclusion that it makes best sense to have trained, dedicated MINI technicians that are intimately familiar with the quirks of your particular model, servicing your cars. If a non-dedicated tech occasionally works on a MINI at the local BMW center, there is a real likelihood that the repairs performed may not be the right ones for the vehicle. MINI dealers have dedicated techs that are properly trained and they know MINIs, which is what’s needed from a customer satisfaction point of view. Yeah, I suppose proximity to a local dealer is part of the customer satisfaction equation, but so is fixing the car right the first time.

So once again, Alabama MINI's get no respect. Not only will they not give us a dealership anytime soon, but they won't even let their BMW dealerships take care of their customers who live so far from a dealership.

Well, at least we were acknowleged (et al). Most fervant state without a dealership perhaps? That's worth Something, right? Maybe they don't realize we get premium fuel here.

How is that true? I think they've run the numbers and it doesn't work with the amount of cars a dealership needs to sell. They'll put a dealership where it can sell the most cars and make the most money.

Yes, but premium what? Seriously, I don't get MINI/BWM's refusal to train and setup BMW dealerships to service MINIs. Nobody should have to drive more than 40 miles one way to have their new car serviced.

Believe me we know & we tried a letter writing campaign because our local BMW dealership (who wants to open a MINI dealership on site BTW) said they were willing to train a tech to work on MINIs there but pffft MINI wasn't open to the idea.
