10/20/2006 build = 2006 or 2007?

I have someone here on NAM telling me that my MINI is "really" a 2007.

I'm certain that I have a 2006 MC...all paperwork for my MINI says 2006.

Details about my MINI appear in my siggie line...

If it's a convertible it might be hard to tell the difference between an 06 and an 07. If it's a hardtop the differences are many, 6-speed manual instead of 5-speed, 6-speed auto instead of CVT, completely different engine, redesigned interior, and other little things like that. If "all the paperwork says it's an 06", then it's an 06.......doncha' think?

I agree that it's a 2006...

The turn signals aren't encased with the headlights...
I have a 5-speed...
My interior looks NOTHING like an R56...

In fact, the only difference between my '06 MC and another '06 MC would be the size of the lugnuts.

Maybe they were thinking of previous years cars? My car was a 7/2004 production and is a 2005 car.

Production of 1st Generation Hardtops ended November 28, 2006.

The 10th character of VIN identifies model year on US vehicles.

Yes - because of the body-style change, production of 2006 models continued longer than normal (even for the convertibles, which were unaffected by the changeover).

The build date on my 2006 MCS convertible is September of 2006. It was originally mistakenly VIN'ed and stamped as a 2007 at the factory, but that's another story.

Speaking of the lug bolts, be sure to use the "new" torque value (103 lbf-ft) when tightening the bolts on your car, rather than the "old" value (88 lbf-ft) that's in the manual. MINI didn't bother to issue an addendum to the manual for the last four month's worth of 2006 vehicles that have the newer 14mm bolts.

Of course, the owner's manual for the R50/R52/R53 right up until the very end continued to say that each keyfob could store different programming options for the car, and as far as I knew, that feature was *never* available for the US-spec cars, so MINI obviously isn't very good about fact-checking their manuals.

Hey, stranger!

How very un-MINI of MINIUSA to keep that info a secret!

my mini also has a prod date of 10/06. it's definitely a 2006 and not a 2007...

although the manual they gave me is for the 07 models and utterly useless, but that's a different story.

From what I understand, MINI, made a running production change some time in July of 06 and started putting 07 brakes on late model year 06 cars. If you have 14mm lugs you have 07 brake parts on your 06.

Remember, 06's have headlights that look straight ahead or can look straight up. 07 Coupe's can only see straight ahead!
