Sunroof...what am I doing wrong?

Greetings from Sunny Oregon...

I've been having a bit of trouble w/ my sunroof when I go to close it from the tilted open position.

It opens just fine but when I shut it, it comes down then pops back open to the tilted position...like I've held the toggle down too long. Has anyone else experienced this strange behavior? After trying the toggle again several times it finally decides to settle back down and close...

i have the same problem..i think it's aggrivating. I open it up completely then close it and it seals. it's bothersom.

I am also having issues with my windows not closing after the car has been off for more than 5 minutes....i open the door and the window goes down like normal to clear the roof, but when closed, they do not go up leaving a 1/2" gap....not good when it's about to rain.

I have to put the key in the drivers side door and close the window manually.

It sounds like you both probably should take your babies in to have this problem looked at. It doesn't sound like that should be "normal" operation.

I had the same issues with the sunroof acting that way. It has not been happening for a while now but it just seems to require a quick opening of the sunroof (just a bit) and then close it and it will be fine.

I did try "resetting" my sunroof as the BMW's can be reset and that was a fun 20 minutes for me. I held the sunroof switch in the close position until the sunroof made a click (as BMW's do). Then I tried to open the sunroof to vent and the funny thing is the vent actually went to the max vent position and stopped moving while the switch was still held in the open position. I released and opened again and the sunroof did its normal thing to fully open. What I found out next really worried/pissed me off. When trying to close the sunroof it would only close a couple inches and stop which meant you had to recycle the switch to completely close the roof.

I thought this messed my roof all up and I tried to reset the roof again. I eventually got it working normally again and since that day I have not had the issues mentioned with the closing from vent.

Interesting, I thought I was the only one with the dancing sunroof (I get the window thing as an occasional bonus too). I've often wondered what the guy behind me thinks when I'm sitting in the turn lane to get onto the expressway and my roof keeps popping up and down. I've been opening it a bit before closing it lately but I think I'll have to try the reset trick and see what that gets me.
As a side note, I've tried the various window resetting options mentioned on here and that hasn't gotten me anywhere. Most of the time mine work fine but I definitely double check if it looks like rain.
