Pot Luck Rally anyone?
Pot Luck Rally anyone?
Hello all. I know I’m still sort of the noobie here but I’d like to get your thoughts on this idea. I have run in a few Glenwood Springs road rallies, Porsche club rallies and VW club rallies. One rally comes to mind that we have run before called a Pot Luck rally.
It’s quite fun in the sense that every car/team lays out one leg of the rally.
Here is how it works.
A: The number of teams/Car entries will be established and each will be assigned a leg of the rally.
B: Depending on how many teams we get will determine the distance limit of each leg.
Once A and B are established each team will have a couple of weeks to layout their leg of the rally.
C: If there are say 8 teams, each team will need to make 8 copies of the instructions.
D: All legs of the rally will not be combined until the start of the rally. So no one knows the entire rally until it has been run. That’s the fun part.
E: All odd numbered cars leaving will do all the odd numbered legs of the rally first, then the even and the even numbered cars leaving will do all the even numbered legs first then the odd so no car can follow the other. It’s up to each team to decide what the running order is of all the legs of the rally.
Basically each leg consists of following a set of written driving instructions and must contain one task. A task is anything from having to find something to doing an actual task. Each team is responsible for determining the time it took to start and finish each leg of the rally. Completing each task must be verified by taking a digital picture at the end. Think of it as “The Amazing Race” on TV but with Minis. Ideal times for each leg will only be known by the team that laid it out. Those times will not be revealed until all teams meet at the end at a specified location. The team with the least amount of deviated time wins. Yes each team will have that nearly perfect time for at least one leg of the rally but that’s just the nature of this beast.
Anyone interested let me know.

Hello Mr. Dutchman!
(or is it Mr. Flying???) Anyway, this sounds like good fun to me. And I love MINI fun.
My suggestion is that you work directly wiht Rick Gonzales, Pres of MINI5280. He is reachable right here in NAM as 'Pauhana' and since he owns the event calendar, he can help you craft an event and find a time to do it. There are plenty of open spaces this year and a good event always draws a crowd.
Check the MINI5280 Calendar right here in NAM for upcoming events...it has, among other things, the following:
Thanks,
Jonathan
