ram-air intake for my Mini

ey guys

on my next trackday with the Mini peeps, i was thinking about having a custom-made ram-air similar to what the Honda kids do. like what you see on Hondas, the ram-air will be in the shape of the driver's-side headlight and will be directed towards the throttle body (with or w/o filter? still trying to decide)

so...whatya guys think of my lil mod? worth it or not? :D

Samtrak's MINI RSR-

He says it's super loud- the supercharger screams. Probably would sound pretty nice on an MC, too.

You would have to be NUTS to do it without a filter. All that crap getting sucked into your throttle body?!?!?!? I don't think MINI would warranty your engine seizing because you took the filter off.

But why would you want to do it? Do you not drive at night? Is your car track only? There is probably a very tiny gain in power from the fresh air, but there are plenty of alternatives on how to route air to the filter. If you really want to get into this, I say buy a few cheap intake kits off ebay and play around with where you can route the tubing. Down away from the engine; cut away some of the plastic shield around the radiator and run the filter next to it; install a heat shield to separate the filter from the rest of the engine compartment; cut a hole in the hood and stick the filter through it; take the whole hood off; etc etc.

In my opinion, there are a lot more places to spend your money to get power gains and overall performance gains. Don't try to be like those Honda fools. You are a MINI owner. Have some self respect.

you certainly put my in my place

the fabrication of the ram-air is only about $30 here in the philippines, not a lot of money really. could this be considered as a cheap yet effective mod?

there's space around the head shield in the radiator? hmm...i will check that out

me and my buds here have trackdays every 2 months, this will only go on my Mini when i'm on the track :D

Didn't mean to scold you. Just be proud of the MINI.

I guess you could just pop out the light and install the intake when you get to the track, then put it all back when your done. Not the worst idea. Just not practical for the street. See what you can do!

I'd say you deff. want a filter on there. Helix did something similar to their Cooper back in the early years.
