Water Restrictions! Arghhh!

Well, for those of us who are no longer allowed to wash our cars, what are you doing?

Just driving a filthy MINI around or are you taking your car to the *ack* car wash???

What makes it worse now is that we have a little bird who thinks he must constantly attack the bird he sees in the side mirrors. Poopy mirrors and doors still must be wiped off, but I need to clean the MINI's. . . .

sigh. . .

Got a garage? Pull the MINI in and wash it out of site of tattle tails. Just make sure not to go over the average usage and be charged a surcharge.

1st I would suggest that you look into moving to Shelby County where we have water & no restrictions

But seriously, you can run by my house to give her a wash anytime you like (we need to try to detail that BRG anywho ) or go to one of the self serve coin-ops, bring your own wash bucket, soap, mitt, & drying towel, pay the $2(ish) to rinse the MINI, handwash, then pay $2 more to rinse off the soap

I've been using a coin-op wand wash for years, doing a good bit (the important part) by hand. Is this allowed??

So, they are supervised by non-humans?

Looks like a "Wash the MINIs" event is coming together. To be held by someone who can use water.

If your serious, I might take you up on it , it is driving us crazy, we wash all of our cars at least once a week. I typically use 2 - 3 gallons more than the allotted amount anyway, so I am panicking at the thought of a 200% surcharge .

I don't mind. I live alone & never go over the standard water charge so unless like 20-50 MINIS show up each week for a wash it should not cost me any extra money. I will PM you my phone # so you can call if you wanna come

I'm surprised we haven't had water restrictions, yet.

This is the toughest restrictions that I ever remember, if you use over 9900gals a month (I think that's the amount or close to it) then they are going to charge us 200% which was $5.something a gallon and the city that I live in is policing the streets and issuing $500.00 fines for violators . I looked on my last months bill and we used 12000 gallons .

I think I may be visiting bamatt

Holy cow! Mine was 6400 gallons, family of 6, 3 trees. Why the disparity?

Yucca, we too have water restrictions and its not because of a drought. There was a drought in 2003 but Hurrican Isabel took care of that. Right now a main water main has been broken for a YEAR! They are still fixing it. No watering or car washing on the weekends (weekdays OK). However, they are very serious. First time a warning, second time water cutoff

In your case, just use a detailing spray!

We have permanent water restrictions. I use the two bucket method and don't worry about the illegality of it. It is sort of like having your car take a bird bath. It would be easier to use a hose but the car gets clean and so far I haven't gone to jail. I suspect I use less water than would be consumed at a commercial car wash. I don't trust the commercial car washes. The ones I have used in the past, at best, seem to have inconsistent mixing of chemicals; at the worst beat the side of my old toyota pickup (it was near freezing and the "clerks" probably should have closed the carwash (but they were too busy flirting with each other)).

Yesterday and today our water pressure has been terrible. People everywhere in the neighborhood watering their lawns. It's always been my reasoning that if it is 90 or above and hasn't rained in a long time then brown grass is ok. I'll water the newly planted trees and select plants but that is about it. Grass will eventually come back when it rains.

As for washing the car. Actually it's nice when it hasn't rained in a while. I washed it a week ago Saturday and it is still clean. A little dusty but not enough to matter.

Oh, and we just got a nice 3 minute shower. Combine that with what we had week before last and it should measure up to about 3mm.

I received my bill today. We used 5100 gallons this month. Up 900 gallons from this time last year. Two adults, one baby, two trees a flowerbed and a MINI.
