One of my favorite things about owning a MINI

In the past 24 hours, I've two great "public admiration" experiences. I know many other motorers do as well. Here's the story:

Was running a errand yesterday afternoon. Was at a stop light waiting to turn left. A truck pulls up on my right but a car length ahead. The driver was goosenecking to look back but it seemed he wasn't looking at me. He kept looking so I waved. He grinned really big and gave me the thumbs up. I, of course, grinned even bigger.

Just a few minutes ago, at a stop light on my cell with a friend. A lady pulls up next to me and is motioning for me to roll down the window. I ask my friend to hang on a second.

I roll down the window and she says "I just LOVE your car! Do you love it?" I say, "Yes I do! It's a lot of fun!". "I love your license plate, too!"

For the record, here is Jake's license plate:

It usually makes my day to motor anyway, but when this happens, it's even sweeter!

I had something like that happen to me last week

A random lady in a Acura MDX asked me while at a stoplight:

Her: "how much does it cost to fill up?"
Me: "Around $40, it takes premium."
Her: "That's not too bad, my truck is killing me"
Me: "really? My car gets around 35mpg, I love it!"
Her: "Who makes it? Is it French? I can see those driving around in France."
Me: "haha, no. It's made by BMW. It's tiny and I love it"
Her: "BMW? Wow, how much? $35,000?
Me: "I got mine for 21,000, they're around 26,000 new."
Her: " Oh wow, that's amazing! I love yours, I'm going to be trading in this soon for one of those! Beautiful car!"

One less SUV out there soon

Great stories!!

I just posted on another thread that my Mini gets more attention from the public than my M3. Sad because the M3 is so beautiful it deserves the same attention, but unfortunately that is not the case. My Mini is definitely the car ***** in the family!!

So many fun experiences driving my Mini - met and talk to a lot of strangers and some become friends with. IMO its a friendly car and definitely a chick magnet!! Lucky for me I'm married, otherwise, I'd have to buy another black book to write all the women's phone numbers, thanks to my lovely mini and probably broke from taking them out to dinner as well, in my mini.

I have not noticed the Romi being a chick magnet,...but then again, I am too old and ugly for anyone to pay attention to. LOL! I guess I offset the magnetic attraction a Mini could have.

Thanks for the chuckle Skuzzy!

But I don't think it's age or looks, you just don't take more time to look around your surroundings.

When I first got mine we were parked next to a brand new Masserrati in front of an Oyster bar. While waiting out front for a seat everybody gathered around my Mini and were asking ? about it...Well the guy with the Mas. has had enough and starts saying "what about my car, I coulda bought 5 of those"..... Needless to say everybody busted out laughing...

One of the reasons I like running with the clubs so much is the friendly excited people waving as a flock? herd? pod? no . . . . bevy of MINIs drive by.

The car is friendly and it attracts friendly people. I've never owned a car that attracts people like this one. Heck, this morning sitting in a restaurant a pickup truck pulled up next to my Mini. The man and wife got out of their truck but before going in for breakfast they hovered over my car with lively gestures and discussion.

But, but, if I take time to look around, I would probably run into something! Or something might pull out in front of me!!

I do keep an eye out for other Coopers so I can wave at em. But I really have not had any expereience with anyone wanting to say anything about Romi.

The MINI attracts friendly people, but it also invites comments and other rude actions from less civic-minded folks... Thankfully, the friendly folks outnumber the others, but for me it's still a buzz-kill to encounter one of those.

Nice story, I love my MINI, I get compliments all the time, driving the car out sometimes just makes my day (as it is rarely driven), sometimes I drive by some places, I hear people yell out thats the car I want , or many times people just stare at the car when I drive by. Also the MINI community is just awesome, I love it when i'm driving and I get waves, or when I wave at other MINI and they also wave back completely makes my day. I can keep going on about my favorite things about owning a MINI, but I think it'll be too long.

That may have something to do with the portable, electrified, razor-wired, machine gun turretted fence you take with you, skuzzy.

Hmmm...I missed the part that you live in Texas. Now I know why no one is looking or talking to you, everyone carrys guns. I'd ignore you too!!

All joking aside, don't wish to hard Skuzzy cause soon enough you will have so many people talking to you about how nice your mini looks, you will decide to trade-in for a Prius just to keep a low profile.

Absolutely true, even if some of us get taunt to race, we get more friendly drivers that just want to give us compliments!

It was annoying/dangerous but at the same time flattering...

Yesterday I had an SUV/Escalade (blinged out - enormous wheels!), anyway, he was literally riding along "the blind spot" of my mini (freeway at 70mph) for 10miles or so, couldn't see him but I knew he was there and he was keeping the cars from passing as well. Few miles later SUV got next to my mini and the passengers gave huge smiles and thumbs up! Now here's where it gets better or scary, he over takes me, changed lane politely (yes folks he actually used his blinker) , gets on right side of my car, so now I'm looking to my right and driver honks his horn and gave me thumbs up before his exit.

Well,...there is that.

There may be some truth to that. The guys are too afraid to even look or they may turn gay, and the girls dismiss Romi as containing someone not rich enough to mess with. Welcome to the D/FW area of Texas!

I've been WAITING for this one! :impatient

I can truly confess I WAS on my headset. It was part of the reason (I believe) I seemed available to the MINI fan lady!

Headsets are a must for motoring, safe driving, et al.

Actually no phone is safe for driving and why more and more areas are banning them. Hang up and drive.

Big trucks, SUVs, etc. seem to be particularly fond of MINIs. MINI envy?

I just saw this bumper sticker: Guns don't kill people, drivers on cell phones kill people.
