specs on alternator in my 04 JCW?

how many amps is it? im going to be adding some amps that draw a ton of current, so i may end up having to replace it with like a 300a alt...has anyone put a high output alt in their MINI yet?

Just add a capacitor and you will not have to worry about it. Because you are doing a huge sub set up correct? This will take care of the alternator if done correctly.

Dammm man your gonna have probably the loudest system ever in a mini. I would probably talk to a dealership, even though that sounds kind of crazy. Detroit's mini dealership gives out alot of information knowing that you are modding your car and do not hassle you too much if at all. I have always called Detroit and Cincinnati for info from dealers. Cincy is an authorized Alta dealer

I think I read the alt is 105A ('05,'06 were 120A). You could always see if the newer one would fit.

You can bridge across short term power requirements and average them out. Is the 300A steady state over the long term? You sure? (be expensive if wrong).

You could do a secondary battery for more current storage, right at the sub. Would supply more power better than a cap. Would also help power droop. Or caps+battery even. Me-I'd build it that way, measure the results (electrical engineer-dabbled in audio for a long time). I'd really think plenty of charge storage would work fine.

Unless you just want to upgrade the alt for bragging/fun. You might contact a couple alternator shops and see if they can rewind it or have ideas.

Here's one response I found googling-official fosgate response to a query about 15,000W
It is not necessary to upgrade your alternator with this. You only need Punch Power caps!!! A general rule of thumb is to use 1 farad per 1000 watts of power, so you simply need to buy 15 1 farad Punch power caps and you'll have no problems! Thanks for your interest in Rockford Fosgate

The alternator on your MCS is 105 amps. It's also physically very small. It will be tough to find a replacement to fit in the same space without some mods. An extra battery (or two) can be used as a buffer to handle the load instead. The little alternator can probably be reworked to put out about 200 amps at the most IMO.
