Garmin NAV dealer installed - best price?

I remember reading a few posts about someone getting offered the Garmin GPS installed by the dealer but can't find them now.

The unit is listed at $750 on the accessories page and then install is probably a bunch more.

I'm trying to get a good deal from my dealer and want some ammunition on what others have been offered. Thanks!

Morristown MINI is offering it for $600 if I'm not mistaken.

What do you mean "dealer installed"? The Mini dealer? I don't have Nav, but I'd be interested in an aftermarket unit if it fit in well with the car.

Yah, seems most of the MINI dealers give a portable NAV option for those that don't want the $2100 center Speedo option. It's a rebadged Garmin Nuvi 360 that they mount to the left of the Tach. My local dealer lists the unit at $750 + installation cost. Morristown MINI lists is at $600. But, read that some people were getting it offered really cheap. Want to get that info so I can try to get my dealer to match price.

I'd like to learn more about this system. I know very little about these things in general. How does the Garmin/MINI system compare? Let's keep up with the "where is the best price" angle too. Thanks!

Does anyone know if you can get that mount seperately anywhere if I already have a Nuvi?!?!

Thanks!

Yes, I ordered the R53 mount and it works great on my Garmin Nuvi 350.

Now if I can just figure the wiring out.

As summarized by Randy K:
Randy K. Jun 18th, 2007 Link
I believe the brackets differ slightly between the R50/R53 and the R56. There at least different part #’s for them.

MINI R56 (2007 Cooper/Cooper S)
Complete kit (with MINI branded Nuvi)- $750
PN: 65 90 0 429 399
Installation kit only (use your own Nuvi) - $175.
PN: 65 90 0 428 283

MINI R50/R52/R53 (2002-2006 Cooper/Cooper S and 2007 Convertible)
Complete kit - (with MINI branded Nuvi) $750
PN: 65 90 0 429 400
Installation kit only (use your own Nuvi) - $175.
PN: 65 90 0 428 284

Thanks! $175 is kinda steep, but eventually I'll probably pick it up anyway.

How useful is everything other than the mount if you don't have the bluetooth enabled 360? Also, I've got an Alpine head unit so I'm not sure if the kit will even work. Hmmm... Time for more research.
