Can I install "Colder" plugs even though I do not have any mod?

Newbie question:

I know the factory spark plugs are good till 100,000 miles. But I am just wondering if I change them to "colder" plugs eg: NGK BKR7EIX-11, will they do any harm to the engine if everything under the bonnet is stock? Or will I lose MPG??

Thanks.

Stay stock as your MCS is stock. Colder plugs are for preventing/eliminating detonation.........you will not have that issue.

I see no reason to do that. Save your money.

you won't harm a thing . but unless you're pinging ..... don't bother . now if you are pinging ; switching to colder will as has been my experience ; give better mileage as you'll have gotten rid of the timing robbing ping.

Stay stock heat range until you do a pulley.

If you switch to a colder plug when it's not required, you can end up with excessive deposits on the plug tip. I don't know if this would happen if you only went one step cooler, but unless you're having pinging/detonation issues at other than wide-open throttle, the switch is probably unnecesssary.

What plugs would be recomended for my set up? (See sig)
Sounds like I should invest in some cooler running plugs eh?

Anyone have suggestions on plugs and the gap?

Thanks

For 17% pulley upgrade try IK-22 or Beru plugs (colder) both are OK.
They come pre-gapped, just use them as is.

Thank you for the info!

Are the Denso plugs that much better? Quite a price jump

I'd say if you have the stock MC or MCS then Beru stock plugs are fine.
If you upgrade the MCS to any reduction pulley then you have the option of IK-22 (very popular) but it does cost more. Beru colder plugs will work and might be more within the budget.

Can you measure any difference for the colder plugs of different brands? Not easily.

I run 1 step colder than stock NGK's couldnt be happier but i have 15%,2% and a bunch of flow mods to include a cam. Im actually concidering trying 2 steps colder as a test cause i think im still running rich at the higher RPMS due to the ECU finding knock. I think im going to go check my plugs now though lol and see if they are loose.

Using the links above it only gives the option of "standard" or "colder" are they going 2 degrees colder or 1 when ordering this way? Or should I call.

Is going one degree colder to start best? Or would 2 degrees be the way to go for straters?

Plugs blowing out of the heads? Sheesh! Sounds like user error unless the threads are stripped when they blow

Thanks for the help everyone, I'm still a bit clueless when it comes to these things and I really appreciate all your helpl

I guess the real question is "how important is it to move to a cooler plug"?

Is the difference worth it? Performance wise is it noticable? Does it make the engine run better, last longer and getter have better fuel economy?

Is it that important to use a cooler plug over stock with a reduced pulley?

I'm vexxed by the plug...

As are most of us. NGK has a nice technical overview on the spark plug that may help you become unvexxed. Colder seems important if you have mods, especially if you like to stay in the high RPM range a lot such as racing. Since I find myself sitting at idle at numerous traffic lights I wonder if colder is really better. I'm back to OEM today but intend to watch the plugs closer. I just removed the Denso IK22's and found one with an eroded center electrode. Hmmm. Maybe it was a little HOT in there!
