Fess Up Sun Roof Cabrio Users

How many of you get lazy and just use the sun roof option on your cars doing a short run? I sometimes think that with the sunroof open, it is windier than the top down with the blocker. I did find out one thing the sunroof does when it is open and angled . It acts as a spoiler and the bugs that hit it flop down on top of you as your driving.

I confess. I use the sunroof feature on short trips. I also find that if you roll the two back windows down only about 2", the wind is significantly reduced and the sunroof option much more enjoyable.

I'm not sure I would call it "lazy". I'd call it convenient.

Short runs and lower street speeds allow for a little sunroof opening and less time taken to open or close the top.

I took a cabrio out for a test drive and tried the various options on the top. I like the small opening. I didn't take it on the freeway.

I wouldn't want "bugs that hit it flop down on top of you as your driving".
That's not part of the desired MINI motoring experience but I believe you that it can happen.

Sunroof - check. Probably about 10% as much as I go fully top-down, though. Which is about 80% of the time.

I sometimes use it (along with the rear windows down a bit) on cooler morning. That said, I had top down, windows open this morning...

Were both guilty and proud of this. And besides the AC works better that way. Its a bit warm in the desert.

Another 10% sunroof with 80% top down (+1).

When too cold outside I use it with the rears partly down (especially 'cause I haven't gotten the windscreen yet . . . I know -- that's the best cabrio mod, but I've been throwing my money into other mods).

I also like the sunroof on days when it looks like I may run into some rain before I make it home, and I don't want to risk topdown.

It's not lazy- what other car even gives you this option? Zero. . . That's one of the unique features of the MINI cabrio, and one I'm sure will be copied. Full open is the best, but take what you can get- whether limited by rain, distance, temperature, etc.

I use the sunroof feature when the weather can't decide what it's doing, e.g. on and off rain. My bf thinks I've gone crazy, I used to want the windows up and ac/heat turned on all the time, but now I want the top down or sunroof open no matter what the temp is outside, and the cabrio's versatile roof enables me to do so!

I like it. Use it especially when I've got unsecured items I don't want to mess with but don't want to blow out.

Yup, I use my sunroof almost every time I get in my MINI.

Oh wait, I don't have a cabrio.

It already has been. I saw an ad last week (Volkswagen Eos) that advertised itself as being the only car with a sunroof incorporated into a retractable hardtop. I'm sure that if it weren't for the MINI, they would have phrased it differently to leave out the "retractable hardtop" caveat.

I use my "sunroof" but I agree that it gets really windy with it open, can't complain though, I'm glad the option is there..

I've never actually liked sunroofs all that much. Too much noise and too windy, even with the back windows open. In the 10 months I've had the cabrio, I've probably only used the sunroof 5 or 6 times. And that was for either because of intense sun or stop-and-go showers.

I guess I'm a purist. I don't consider my 90:10 clause fullfulled unless my top is FULLY down.

I like that the cabrio has the retractable sunroof, despite the fact that I am a purist as well . Think about it this way- it's there if you want it (for those who aren't hard core) and it just shows that MINIs are at the forefront of advancing technology. Engineering a ragtop in a MINI while only adding about 150 lbs and maintaing rigidity is a marvel in itself! I don't see it as a negative in any way.

Yes, just like putting the top down, push the unlock button.

....IF, and that's a big IF, this feature has been programmed / enabled for your specific car. I had to ask specifically for this feature to be enabled at delivery.

Depending on how you have the unlock feature programmed, it works something like this:

1) Press unlock to unlock drivers side (depending on programming, may also unlock passenger side.
2) If passenger side doesn't unlock on the first press, press again to unlock passenger side.
3) Press AND HOLD the unlock button for about 5 seconds. The sunroof will start to open - continue holding until it stops, then release.
4) If you want to take the top down, press AND HOLD again for about 5 more seconds. The top will start to to unlatch - continue holding until it stops.

It still supprises me all the options that have to be asked for. CF in Va Beach seemed to have made everything available that is available.

Lazy!!!!????!?

I guess no one reading this is old enough to have owned a MANUAL convertible...

I had two where top up/down was about a 15 minute commitment...and still had it down as much as possible. The MINI has got to be the easiest and quickest top out there - you don't even need to LATCH it!!
With my cabrio, if I am going to make 2 stops that are 1/4 mile apart, top goes down for each of them! (Closer than that, I walk - can always use the exercise!)

I think I have used the sunroof twice in a year. The tip someone posted about lowering the windows makes it less noisy, but with me, tends to be all-or-nothing...! I can see its usefulness as a 'second-best' , where it had been pouring when you left your garage, and now you are on the highway with no safe place to stop, and now it stopped raining...

NEVER! I NEVER CHEAT WITH JUST THE SUNROOF! I always have my top down. Even in the pouring rain because I took my top down vows seriously.

I am totally kidding, by the way. ha ha...
