R56 Scoop is not the same color.
Scoop is not the same color.
Anyone notice that the paint on the scoop doesn't exactly match the paint on the body?

Here I've increased the saturation of the image to make it easier to see the color difference:

So, what to do? Live with it? Complain? Take it out and paint it another color? Spend $300 on a carbon fiber scoop?

I think what you are probably seeing is the same paint on a different substrate. The scoop is black plastic, the hood is metal, probably with a light-colored primer.
Honestly, I'm not seeing it myself though. My monitor at home is calibrated though I might see more of a difference there.

If you would like a carbon fiber scoop, maybe suggest to the dealer that you would take that for a sooper dooper deal or they can choose to have the current one replaced.
My guess is this is a color lot matching issue. Silver is very hard to match and I'm guessing the scoops are long done and lined up waiting for the cars during assembly. Anyone know for sure?
In my industry (product design), I avoid matching same colors for different materials of molded plastics (non-painted parts) because they will never match exactly. In fact, different raw material lots of the same material will vary as well. Painted parts will have the same issue lot to lot. My theory is: parts that mate that are different materials should be different colors; different enough so that it doesn't look like a mismatch. That doesn't apply here since these are painted parts, but unfortunately, the result is the same.
Good luck!

Robin, I agree it's definately off and to my eye, not in a good way. I'd give your MA a headsup that there's a defect in your car. At least it'll be in your file for when you show up for service.

I would not be happy with the color match Either. Go back to the dealer and show then the difference. I'm sure they can do a better job matching the paint. Should not a big deal. Just a matter of removing the scoop, a quick sanding and paint. Should not take any more then one day at the dealership to do it. Good luck.
Thanks for all the encouragement. When I am confident that MINI of Mountian View techs have mastered the software update for Voce Activation, I'll have them do that upgrade and fix the scoop color.
