R50/53 annoying "clacks"
annoying "clacks"
Hi
I drive a 2004 MCS
recently something has started to make a annoying sound:
everytime a drive slowly in 1st or 2nd gear(also driving backwards), and I start breaking (softly) (i.e. in a parkinglot, when you're stuck in traffic, or when I slow down entering the streets from my driveway)
something makes a rather unhealthy sound (quite hard to describe, especially because i dont speak english), it sounds like someone is clapping his hands, or knocking on the windows
It comes from behind the front seats, around the rear axle .... it seems like something is hitting the frame or suspension
Last week I pointed ot the problem the bmw dealer(along with some other things) and they seemed to have fixed it ... for about half a day
Is this a common problem? or does anyone knows what is is or how to fix it?
Thx in advance!

I don't know the technical explanation but my 06 does a similar thing after being jacked up (tire change, not as in being assaulted
) or just filled with gas or after taking a heavy load out of the back. The primary factor, being load change. I get a "thock" sound from the rear shock. I think its just the rear shock(s) settling in after being extended. I don't worry about it. I don't know if its the same thing as you but its a thought.

yeah, it might be something like that!
it might be cause by the weight shift when starting to break right after accelerating!
i also noticed i have brand new rear shocks (bought it second handed at the bmw garage) ... maybe the have to "break in" :d

Ask your dealer what they did to "fix" it (so that you learn), and let them know that whatever it was, it was only temporary. They should be willing to repair it again, and do a more permanent job, if possible.
