How much are you willing to put up with...
It seems this little car is so infectious that people are putting up with small issues but replacing tranny's at 2K, 3K miles, etc. seems a bit much or no. Its not that bad?. Everything magnified and most people do not have problems. Someone made a good point, if they are fixing things early but at 50,001 miles, then what. That repair is $3,000+ and it has been a design flaw the whole time?. That doesn't change. Any thoughts.
BTW, I just ordered on Saturday. MCS, Sparkeling Silver, blacktop and mirrors, standard wheels and leatherette, auto, DSC, MFSW, english oak, center arm rest, sports stripes and matts. Am I the crazy one.

You can sell and buy new when the warrantee runs out, or extend the warrantee for another year if you wish. In the end, turning over a car early instead of owning it for many years is a cost as well, but by then you should have some idea of the writing on the wall.
There could be a hundred reasons the tranny problems have hit. It was design by Getrag, for Mini, using Mini specifications/requirements. Getrag is a pretty reputable transmission company.
Could be as simple as a bad batch of synchronizers all the way to a flaw in the design. Can happen to any car/company. Want to here my horror stories about my Volvo? And I believe the warranty for the transmission starts from the day it was installed.
If it is a design flaw, Getrag will end up eating a bunch of transmissions unless they can figure out how to correct the flaw in existing transmissions, then they will just setup a rework line to rework the flawed ones.
I am not worried about it. I have been through new car problems with Ford, Lexus, Volvo, Nissan, and Inifinti.
Ford: Bad clutch design, warranted and replaced with improved design
Lexus: Automatic transmission problems, design flaw. Corrected with new transmission
Volvo: Multiple transaxle assemblies. They never did get the kinks worked out.
Nissan: Easily damaged front end components. Car could not hold a front end alignment. Never fixed.
Infiniti: Multiple engine management computers for new engine.
The things I have read about here do not bother me in the least and has not diminished my desire to FINALLY SEE MY CAR DELIVERED!!!! ARRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHH!!!!

Yes, I am pretty sure it does. It has for every other car I have ever owned. I just assume it does for Mini. I have not really paid much attention to it as I HAVE NOT GOTTEN MY CAR YET!! ARRRRRRGGGHHHHHH!!!
Well considering Im dealing with this problem, my outlook is this: The '07's are new and untested in the mass market. There's no way MINI could have predicted these sorts of failures until the cars are out on the road. I think the most telling thing for me will be how quickly they realize there is a problem, diagnose it and make changes to future cars. I have to be honest, if there is a strike 3 I will lemon law my car and start all over again.

I'm sure most of these problems will get sorted out. But some of them might require manufacturing changes or even a redesign of certain components.
It's stuff like this which leads some of us to avoid the first model year of any car!

Still a good buy to me. Could be anything.
Really, the torque adjustment on one component at the tranny manuacture plant could have been out of whack and over torqued the widget flange bearing (you can google this, but it aint gonna find much!). Anyway, it does this for half a shift before it bust one of the flanges. Nevil, the ever present milwright, recalibrates the widget flange bearing torque machine and starts the line back up. They sample the run since last calibration, but, "X" number of trannies have slipped by with really cranked down flange bearings. Doom for them doth ensue 3000 miles later.
The widget flange bearig torque machine soldiers on error free until the next plant upgrade. Nobody can figure out exactly why those X number of widget bearings cratered, but the problem is fixed. No worries.
At least that is what I hope it is. I take solace in the numbers.
My deepest condolences to anyone who is having this problem. Fingers crossed for a quick and fair repair to each and every one.

Okay, I did a search for all posts in our forum having the word, "Transmission" or the word, "Tranny". Since the R56 rolled out in the U.S. I see that both trinity 07 and IS2000 have had transmission problems. Anyone else?

Hey wait...you bought and auto trans?? Cancel and buy the Yaris NOW!
You want the SIX SPEED MANUAL BOX! This is a performance car!! Autos are for Buick drivers and drag racing.BTW, a friend called me and mentioned that he read that the new Mini is rated FIFTH out of all cars for RESALE VALUE. You're not going to get that driving that boring box of a Toyota. ORDER UP!!
Last edited by surfblue; May 9, 2007 at 10:07 PM. Reason: Mention of resale value
I leased my car but that was just so I could get into the car. I plan on buying it outright when the lease is up as long as its a solid car over the next 3 years. I will probably opt for the extended warrenty too when the time comes, not taking any chances with it.
If you're that nervous/crazy you need to buy a Toyota Yaris.
If you base it on historical data (i.e., gen one cars), one issue alone probably isn't going to matter to most people. It's when multiple issues hit ... then they walk.
