UGH My Top Won't Open

The day after I return from the dragon my top won't open. The sunroof opens fine but when I push the button to open the top the little red light just flashes. I have checked & made sure that the rear shelf is flat (I even unlatched & relatched the shelf for good measure) & those little ball thingies are hanging fine on the cord. Any suggestions before I have to trek all the way over to Atlanta

Keep checking everything over & over again. Don't forget the levers, too. It doesn't take much to irritate that system. Good luck. And thanks again for the NSW - I am even in the pic you posted.

I was just going to suggest pulling both levers in the trunk area, resetting the shelf then re-lock everything.

yeah, I hate it when that happens

the parcel shelf foot on the drivers side sits on a little button that tells the system it's ok, and I've also had issues when the tailgate didn't make full contact with it's button, or when a door was open ...

if it's none of those things, I don't know what it could be.....

UGH My Top Won't Open

I was already trying to think of an appropriate smart remark (Are you sure it's not a REAR clasp?), but then I opened the thread and see, "Save the Ta-Tas".

Priceless.

I even tried doing that twice for good measure

My tailgate was fully closed but when I get home I will give it a go just for good measure

The far more serious question is what where you doing with the top up/on in the first place

My kid must have let a napkin get down in the mechanism b/c last yr my top wouldn't go down - so I took it in and they found a napkin covering the sensor?
So, w/ the top up, look down in the gap b/w the inside of the top, and the inside side panel?

Thank God for this thread. A few months ago the same thing happened to me. I looked in the trunk and I looked in the areas that napkins get dropped in and saw nothing. I want to say that I unlocked the levers but I can't remember now. We took it to the nearest dealership here which was a nightmare (bad service AND a language barrier = suck). At first they said they were going to order a whole new top (the mechanic telling me, "Cupolla kaput" was almost worth the whole thing) and three days when it was done it sure LOOKED like the old top because it was. Whatever, it works, great.

Flash forward to a month ago and we have the same problem again. The next available appt they have was a month from when we called, which will be this coming monday. I know what will happen...I will take it down there, they will look at it and then they will tell me they will call when the new part comes in. Well it is Summer now, I'm going out to sea, the wife can't get time off of work, we have to ship it home in the next few months and I want the damn top down! All of these things were building up into a terrible frustration.

Sitting here reading this thread I realized that right before it stopped working we hit a pot hole. I mean, we HIT it. Hard. Maybe that knocked something loose. So anyway thank you for the ideas on what to check. I am at work now but will check these when I get home. Hopefully I can call and cancel the appointment.

EDIT: Yup, I'm a moron...unlocked levers, folded the top back, put it all together and it worked just fine. To celebrate we went for a ride around the island with the top down.

I'm glad I found this thread, I went to Costco, loaded a box in the trunk and it had knocked the luggage cover out of place but I didn't noticed and my top wouldn't work, I didn't know there was a switch on that, I had the levers back in place, played with them a couple of times and it still wouldn't work, so I came on NAM, found this thread, went back to my car, checked the cover and sure enough the front was out of place and the back was not sitting on the switch, I placed everything back properly and it worked right away.
Thanks guys.
Al

Can you bypass the sensors? I have been trying to figure out this issue for a while.

The sensor for the lever had a pinched wire so we snipped the wires and twisted them together. No go though..

Driving me nuts. I am 3 hours from the nearest mini dealer.

Yes you can

My 06 MCS Cab. and the same problem.Top wouldn't go past the sunroof open position. Of course tried the luggage deck switch. Then for good measure, I bypassed the switch(Cut the wires and taped them together so there is always a completed circuit) At least I didn't have to worry about that switch again. That still didnt fix the porblem. The dealer said it was a faulty left stowage switch and wanted $2000 to fix it!!! I said FU and did some research. After locating the "faulty component" (which is easily accessable) I sprayed contact cleaner all over it(and the right side for good measure)., Then I lubricated the sunroof rails with WD40..Works like a champ!!! I'm happy to be toppless again!!
