That's an amazing half sleeve! I've been trying to come up with something to make the piece on my right arm into a half sleeve but I haven't been able to finalize a background/design. Soon though..

Well, I mean the softer tones that the tattoo artists achieve...the subtle shadings, and the parts that look airbrushed. I think that's what Kurt means, too.

That's what I mean, where the color fields fade. It's very subtle, not like a line.

I have two and can't wait to get another, and another..I have at least 4 ideas of what i want done...none of them are the same! Well sort of the same theme.

There was a sign in the place I had mine done and it is soooo true.."The difference about a person who has a tattoo and a person who doesn't have one is, the person with a tattoo respects the person who doesn't."
I have found this to be very true...Not saying that all who do not have one don't respect, blah,blah,blah....

My one is rather symbolic. Sort of my Mom with me always (she died) and my other one(s to come just ME!

I'll remember that next time I'm picked on.

I'm sure the Hells Angels type have something to do with that saying.
IMO, it's a person's actions that deserve (or not) respect.

now i can't think of anything fun to get because it has to be pretty small and simple. all i can think of is the typical hearts or stars.. any ideas? we'll probably do it this Wednesday.

ok are you talking piercings or tattoos? you going ADD on me tonight? hahahaha

If you're talking tattoos....hmmm...don't go for the norm. Pic something that means something to you and stick to it...I don't know your style but I'm quite the good doodler if you want me to draw up something silly and cute...LOL I wish I had somke of my stuff here to show you. One of the biggest compliments I ever had was in high school I use to draw on a girl in math class. One day she showed up with what I drew as a tattoo...that was pretty cool. ok that was a total tangent (I blame the wine)

ideas...think Stoo think...hmmmm?

As in everything, it is always people's actions, and personality. It was just something that struck me when I saw it. Now, I have had my rebelious days (pre tattoos I may add) but I have found that some people's actions have changed towards me once they know I have one... Kind of annoying isn't it? Not like in the last 2 seconds I magically changed...
But What Ever Floats Your Boat. I love art, and I like mine. Doesn't make me a better or a worse person. Dosen't change how I will act towards anyone else. ...except the one I saw at work...Being a labor and delivery nurse, you tend to see things you DON'T expect!

he's currently the piercer but doing a tatt apprenticeship, which i volunteered for

hmm..my syle. i dunno, i like stuff that's funky. and i like stuff that takes something traditional and puts a weird or creative twist on it. i'm just having a hard time with this because it has to be so simple and small.. like the size of a heart or kanji or something.

I really want a half sleeve, but just don't have the ***** (or the fundage) at the moment. I do hope that I brave up at some point... In the meantime, I found a place that has a buddhist nurse on staff and I'm going to have the sanskrit "namaste" on my wrist elaborated upon, thematically. I think I'd like something more graphic/abstract as the surround - like a mandala. Something, well, in keeping, but without beating me over the head with said buddhist theme.

JDR -- that's GORGEOUS.

It is funny how some people treat you diferently. I lived in the south for 11 years and there's still a lot of prejudace towards the art. When I worked in a record store we had a guy come in who obviously couldn't find what he was looking for. After several attempts to try and help him because he kept shooting me down he finally caved and allowed me to know what he was looking for so I could find it. At the time I thought he was just the stubborn "I don't need anybodies help!" kinda guy but after he went to the counter and purchased his item he came back to my section and told me that he had been very rude to the kid behind the counter when he first walked in because the kid was tattoo'ed and pierced. He had this vision in his head that people like that were all bad so he came back to tell me he appologized to the guy because I was so nice to him and completely changed his opinion. To this day it's one of the biggest compliments I've ever recieved.

Wow... this thread sure did take off in a cool direction!

I have one tattoo that I got when I was 18. I lucked out and got one of the best artists in Atlanta at the time, Cap Szumski at Timeless Tattoos. I've been itching to get another for a long long time (I'm now 30). I've been thinking more and more about this and have decided that this year will be the year. I want some black and grey work done this time, (my first is very colorful, even after twelve years, I'll post a pic soon) and I've always wanted to get one done by a girl, but I know Cap is excellent at black and grey work. I just can't decide what or where... I have many things I want, just can't decide which one will be first...

Anyone know of any other artists in the Atlanta, GA or Austin, TX area that are good with black and grey?

ok I dug deep for this one but here's the shot of my buddy who is huge, tattooed and was always perceived as a scary individual when in fact he was quite the teddy bear and extremely friendly. circa 1999? (give or take)
The tall guy is Ogre, The girl on th left is still my best friend today (13+ years), I'm not sure the red head's name and the girl on the right...well...that's ME! (scary)
Keep in mind I had shoes on that add a few inches...he was extremely tall!

Thats a good ad. I have never seen a MINI commercial on tv though. They must not run any national ads.

On the subject of tattoos, I think it would be cool to get a single black line around the circumference of my left bicep/tricep. It would be centered on the bone. Does that make sence? I dont know any medical words to describe it. The idea with this tattoo would be: that line is the joint where my "cybernetic arm" was attached. Does that sound too crazy? Then how about a bar code on the back of my neck?
