Ha ha! If you think middle-aged tatoos look bad, have a gander at the feet! I used to feel the same way about tatoos until I realized that bodies aren't to be preserved, they are to be used up. Remarkably, the more I try to "use up" my body, the better relative to my peers it gets. True I avoid endos on my Mt. Bike these days, but I'm thinking of sporting some ink.

I heard an interview a few months back with a flight attendant who'd gotten the Delta logo tattooed on her back. She loved her job (emphasis on past tense, such is the state of the airline industry today) and wanted to do something to remind herself of who she was. That's kind of inspired me to do something significant this year and then get a tattoo to commemorate it. We'll see how that goes.

I'm big into putting meaning into tattoos. The one I'm currently trying to design is a half sleave I started to think about and design more than 5 years ago but was unable to properly get the design out of my head. About 1 year ago I found a style of shading & coloring that really stuck with me so for some reason yesterday the creative energy hit me long enough to get a rough draft out. I'm excited...now all I have to figure out is how to pay for it but I'm one step of the way there with the design

you should have seen my friend named Ogre...practically 7 foot tall, very heavy set with facial tattoos. You take one look at him and think "I wouldn't want to run into that guy in a dark alley!" but he was really just a big teddy bear, friendly as could be. (I'll have to see if I can find a photo later)

Very nice! I had a couple done this past month.

I got this one after I got back from Japan last month. The symbol is Eejanaika and it literally means "Ain't it great!"

And this one I got to cover up a scar on my wrist. The scar is from pins that help hold my broken wrist in place after I flew 30ft over my handle bars on my Harley. Trust me, I love my Mini.

I waited until I was 46 to get my first tat & I love it!!! It's on the top of my foot & vines/leaves also twist around my toes on the same foot. Now I'm wanting it to continue up my ankle, leg, side, and side/top of my breast.

Hmmmmm... did I just shock anybody that knows me???!
Maybe that's PART (small part) of the attraction to ink...... shock value!??

Tattoos are like eating potato chips.

You really can't do just one. Until they're all really just one.

I had post-polio surgeries on both legs when I was a child, leaving lots of scarring from stitches. For years (since the '60s), I fantasized about having tendrils and vines tattooed up the stitches on my right shin, like a trellis. But the area is so tender , I'm sure it would hurt like the dickens. I'm too cowardly to get any "real" tatts. Well, I had permanent makeup done on my eyebrows, but you cannot tell. I'll have to show them to you at MOTD, Ems and Tracy!

Very interesting...

I heard about the Marine restriction on the radio. If someone wants to volunteer to risk death defending this country, let them have all the tatoos they want! I guess the Marines don't want to offend anyone.

Some of the new stuff is art. How is the airbrushed look accomplished with a needle?

I've never wanted a tatoo. On certain occasions, I thought about something stupid like a race track winding around. But don't worry, I hate needles.:impatient

I wonder about the airbrushed look, too! The contemporary tattoo artists are amazing. As for hating needles, have a few acupuncture treatments and you'll find needles are okay.

I'm not skeered of self-defecating humor. I have to be really sick to get a blood test.

^Why do those characters look so familiar? Are they custom, or something I might know?

I heard that also. There was also something about stopping the tribute tattoo. Apparently there is a style of tattoo where they put the names of thier fallen comrades on their arms so that they can never forget and so people that see it know. I hope it was just to keep uniform and not just to stop tributes.

It is 100% custom. Jared Green (currently at Bombshell tattoo) helped me design and did the work. I can't recommend him enough if you are into the new school style.

Clo & Kurt-what do you mean by the airbrushed look exactly"? give me an example. Basically it has to do with the needle. When doing fine lines the rod only has one needle on it's tip but then there's "shader" needles which are one rod with several needle tips. Think about it like choosing a diferent paint brush.
Here's a link to several styles of needles
