I would qualify that a bit.

If you already own good canon glass (L series lenses for example) it makes not much sense to switch to a different camera system now.

If you someone owns a small number of cheap or older non-autofocus lenses, then honestly I think it makes sense to look at both modern D-SLR platforms and the good glass that is available and then decide.

Not to start a brand war since it's not the camera that takes the picture, but. . . .

Many of the Canon speedlights can be used to trigger other flashes. Or for a completely off camera set up you can use the ST-E2 transmitter.

Nikon has always kicked Canon's butt on lighting, but the cost of entry is a bit less prohibitive than what you may have thought.

Ergonomics is a such a personal thing. When I decided to get more serious about photography, I faced this debate since Pentax was (even by then) a non-player in the autofocus world.

The rear jog dial and the overall ergonomics of the EOS-5/A2 beat out Nikon's offerings by a big stretch. And it's been so much money on glass since. . .

Point is: People need to go play with the gear to see how it fits their hands and shooting experience.

Happy shooting.

I blame the photo forum for twisting my rubber arm into getting the 70-200 F/2.8 VR.

While that 8mp point & shoot may have 2mp more those pixels are on a much smaller sensor. What that gives you is a nosier picture, especially at a higher ISO. I had a Nikon D2H 4 mp & to my eyes it took better pictures than my Fuji S1 or D70, but not my D200. As far as point & shoots go large pixel counts is pure marketing.

Another point is the lens on the camera. Even the cheapest glass on a DSLR is going to be much better that any on a Point & shoot.

climbergirl.... if you already own canon glass it makes not much sense to switch to a different camera system now. The reason I went Nikon digital was the amount of money I had already invested in Nikon glass.
Well, I am kind of a gear head. Shhh. don't tell anyone! I have nikon lenses too. Just no macro for the nikon. I kept the N70 for b/w purposes. And, actually, I had never planned on converting to digital.. it was my trip to Greece that did it. I didn't want to have to carry a small tripod, film, 2 camera's etc like I did when I backpacked for a month. That was 50# pack on a 5'5 frame at 130#. Had some killer legs after that trip! Once I starting using the digital on a regular basis, my poor little nikon was put away. And, it doesn't make sense to sell the N70 or the lenses, because you never get the money back. Sooo...there I am. all exposed!

In due time gentlemen, in due time....

The model was a little shy, as while I was taking those shots, there was a crowd of about 50 people gathered, some making fun of her poses, some drooling down their chin, so she is a little apprehensive on allowing me to release them to the general public... but maybe NAM doesnt count as general public....

Not true at all, Dave; you've always been able to do this with a 580ex, 550ex, or Speedlight Transmitter, and all other speedlight flashes as receivers.

Edit: Sorry I missed the second page, thanks for also pointing it out, trick.
And as I've said before, dave, it's your amazing flash trickery that truly sets your photos apart and makes them the best around!
