From contest rules:
2. The photo must be MINI related, comply with the site guidelines, be no larger than 800 x 600, and under 200kb in size.
2. The photo must be MINI related, comply with the site guidelines, be no larger than 800 x 600, and under 200kb in size.
). Is there a target file size that the moderators would like to have (i.e. "50kb or less in file size") that we could stick to, yet still have the full 800 x 600 pixels to work with?Just wondering if this is a possibility.
Cheers!

FYI: I just pulled the June Poll. I need to make some edits to it. There are some photos included in it that are clearly quite old and not within the contest rules of being new photos. The contest is here to encourage new photos being taken, not to be an opportunity to go through a catalog of past work to see what fits.
The poll will be returned shortly and the poll options reset.

-! It's a great photo that hasn't been submitted here before and was very fresh. It was taken only weeks before June. I don't have some big portfolio of "past work" to pull from! I was under the *mistaken* impression this was supposed to be fun and encourage amateur photography.
I'm not a professional photographer, I don't have a lot of spare time to go out and take photos, but when I do there are usually some great ones. Not good enough for your contest? Fine.
I'm very disappointed in this board, and this "contest".
You certainly have not encouraged me.
Sorry, BartMack, but I think Dave did the right thing. This contest is to encourage people to GO OUT AND SHOOT. "Weeks before June" means you culled something from your archive, and that you didn't actually get out and take a new picture with the theme in mind. The parameters of the contest are pretty well defined, and if you don't agree with it, then there are lots of other places you can go to get your work seen. Very few of us here are "pros" (and I'm gonna go out on a limb here and guess that "pros" are neither likely to enter nor particularly welcome in this group of amateurs). The contest works like this: Dave announces a topic, and we've got roughly 3 weeks to go out, take pictures, and submit them for inclusion. That's laid out in the rules, and you didn't follow them, therefore you're exempt from the contest.
BartMark: Your photo was taken on May 5th which was a month before the contest topic was announced. As we have said since the beginning of the contest, we hold the contest to encourage new photos to be taken, not so that people can go through their photo archive and find a photo that best fits the topic (whether it was taken last month, last year, or three years ago).

Hey, hey!
I'm sure you're proud of your skills BM, but I'm even more sure you'd like to sharpen them even more.
What's cool about these monthly challenges is how we're given a task to complete.
Some of us will choose to participate, depending on our interests. Oftentimes, we might choose to sit back and enjoy the scenery.
Whatever the case, we have a choice whether to accept the challenge, or decide if it's not our cup of tea.
My thinking is that when a challenge is presented, someone will always rise to the occasion.

But somehow this picture gets through?????

Seems like what i spoke to you about in PM's actually does ring true......
Sorry but within the past 6 months would seem like a reasonable time to be able to submit a photo. If i truly wanted i could have changed the data on my picture to show it was taken the day before i submitted and none the wiser......
Mine was pulled also. It was assumed the picture was taken in 2003 because the time & date was not set on the camera I used. The MINI in my picture is my 2005 Cabrio
But when I was honest enough to say I took the picture in May, I was told it wasn't new enough & to set the date/time on my camera the next time like I was some kind of dummy.

Was that system infallable? No.
Was it sustantially more fair than doing nothing to those that waited for the contest topic to be announced, then went out and shot something with that as the objective, and then entered it for the contest? Yes.
In future contests we will stipulate that in order for photos to be included into the contest they must have exif data intact.
