Who's going to the BSSP drive on Sunday from the Camera and Video forum?
Juan and I are coming up tomorrow and I know Jim is going to be there. Anyone else?

Dave raises his hand.
Look for the DS/DS MCS JCW w/ wavy checkered sunroof decal. Oh, and the pirate fish decal on drivers side.
I'm trying to talk the wife into the Saturday night drive too, but I think I'll might be able to combine it with the photo shoot that she is wanting of us in dressy clothes. Motoring in a suit, hmmm.
See you there.

See Ya!

Hey, it was nice to meet MadHatter, JimZ68, and Speednut, not to mention seeing familiar other familiar faces, at this event in Sausalito. BSSP's presentation was quite interesting, and entertaining. (I liked that video celebrating the awarding of the MINI USA contract, wish they'd post it online.)
Jim, I'll check out your pics when I get home, since Flickr is one of those filtered sites here at work.

I had a blast at the event. It was cool to drive up with Juan and Charlie, and then get to see Jim again, and meet Dave. I wish we'd have had a little more time to catch up on things. Too bad we had to head back to L.A.
NorCal rocks.

It was funny that when I clicked the shutter, the noise startled the little guy. He jumped back and wouldn't get near the lens again. (Instead he showed me his rump thereafter.
)Another friend of mine, Bob W. (ReCoop), had one for several years. I have a pic of the two of them somewhere. (He has a copy in his SCMM gallery.)
I'm still curious about your Classic Red pic though. Was it a downhill curve? (the motion arcs downward) And what about the rear wheels? You think it's the hand holding? ('cause that happens when I don't pan just right.) When I saw it earlier on Motoringfile, it caught my attention right away. I even ran the mouse over the pic to see if there was a larger version. Thanks for posting it here.

Looking over the four frames I shot of that Mini on that corner (which did slope downward it seems to me that the part in focus shifted from the back to the front of the car as it arced through the turn. In the first frame the very back was in focus (rear wheel round, front wheel blurred - i.e. opposite of photo above).
Based on that I'd say part of the issue has to do with how the back of the car and the front of the car are following slightly different arcs through the frame, and the car not following in a straight path directly across that frame during the pan, but getting closer to the camera or driving away from the camera mid-pan.
I'll defer to someone like Jim or MarkS that has done more panning out at the track to comment on that further though.

Well, my photos won't do justice to what Juan and Dave already posted, but here they are anyway:
There were a lot of great looking classic Minis here:

Plus more Minis than you could count; they went into the horizon

"Twiggy" relaxing after flying up Mt. Tam to catch up with everyone after I took a wrong turn and went down to the beach.

Same photo in B&W looks really nice to me:

View of San Francisco skyline just above Twiggy's new Cooper Flags sunroof decal. Mental note made, must close sunroof next time I do this type of composition.

Ms. Speednut was busy with the camera during the drive attempting not to get motion sickness. She is still learning how to use the camera, but she was able to get a few nice shots...
This is what DiD looked like during the drive as we whizzed past him several times.

Brutal 1's family was very impressive, especially his newborn who slept through the whole twisty mountain drive.

Lots o' twisties here in Marin, too much fun!

Taking over the dam...

I'll post the Saturday night photos in the night shots thread.
Cheers!
