Canon has launched a beginning D-SLR site to help familiarize those new to D-SLRs (or SLRs) to their new cameras (or potential new purchase).

The very best tool for a beginner I can recommend is Rick Sammon's Complete Guide to Digital Photography - about $35 at Borders/Barnes & Noble. Excellent instruction and examples from cover to cover on the whole shebang.
