We have had a thick marine layer for the past couple weeks (aka June Gloom). It's something different to work with other than the monotonous sun and blue sky.

These first two shots were taken within about 20 seconds of each other. The second one was just underexposed by 2/3 of a stop and post processed a little differently.

the last picture, very, very nice....the others? just don't jump out at me. not really sure why. it would have been nice to have something blurred in the pic....like someone on a bike riding by really fast... just a thought.

Nice ones as usual. The haze is apparent even between the camera and the car, they are not as vibrant as your usual photos because of it. I barely noticed the fire in the background...I would have done something cool with that...not sure what tough.
Summer in LA and no one's at the beach? Where have Annette and Frankie gone? Actually this is how I remember Santa Monica beach--just about every time I have been there. You seem to have captured the "typical" LA background. The slight haze makes it appear nostalgic. Depending on the car you use it might represent any year in the past half century--from Mini to MINI. And the close up of OctaneGuy's car is way cool.

Those photos were taken on a Thursday evening at Dockweiler State Beach (near LAX). I like that location specifically because there aren't that many people that visit Dockweiler (or travel through it on the bike path) during the week. Weekends are a different story though. Fewer people and open parking make it nice to be able to have some flexibility for setting up a shot. Granted you don't get many people in the background, but that night I was quite pleased to have the small group hanging out at one of the fire pits.
nice shots!
do you play around with digital at all? i love the quick turnaround of digital imagery... Sony DSC F828 8 megapixel for me; my old 35mm camera is a Canon A1. Sentimental value at this point.Dave in NY
