New Rolling Shots :: Featuring OctaneGuy

Last night OctaneGuy and I got together to shoot some pictures of his MINI with the VacuCam attached.
The first location we went to, we only got one picture taken before security kicked us out for not having permission to photograph on their property. Luckily for us, that first picture was usable.

We relocated a mile or so away and found another great spot..
After getting setup and taking numerous shots, the security guard from the adjacent complex came over to talk to us. He said that initially he thought our car might be broken down, but now he was just curious what we were doing. We chatted for a bit. He had other rounds to make, so he left us alone and we went back to shooting pictures.
A few minutes later a couple guys drive up in a Chrysler Crossfire and ask if we're doing action shots. My first reaction was to think they were going to get in the way and wanted to watch and learn. It turns out they were doing the same thing and had just gotten kicked out of another near by parking structure by security.
So we both wound up working in the new area.

I'm not sure how many useable shots they got though, because shortly after they arrived the fog started getting pretty thick. The effect of the fog is pretty evident in the picture on the right. That was the last shot we took before heading for home.
I still have some other pictures from last night to do a little bit of editing to. If I get a chance later today I'll post them up.

Fantastic!!
Wow, they look really cool! I'm really glad I brought that dark jacket--makes me more invisible.
I still can't believe what a coincidence that was. Of all the places that you can go shooting in LA, what are the chances of two people ending up on opposing parking structures---getting kicked out of there, then driving to another spot a mile away, and ending up at the same location to also do rigged action shots??? Funny!!
Thanks for the shots DiD!! Fantastic as always!!

The VacuCam pictured on my door is for show only. It has nothing to do with how the pictures were taken.
DiD has posted a How To on his Motion Shots

Just my 2 year old, out of production, point and shoot, Nikon Coolpix 4300.

That's the little orange setup you see on the side of the car. It's a small video camera.

This pic has the appearance of having been shot within museum walls. The strong composition, well-grounded white balance, and the wicked use of ambient light all contribute to this photograph's excellence!
Keep up the good work.
hafid: Definitely. Bring your camera.
blacknblue:
Thanks. That's really nice of you to say.
jwardell: That effect is created by dragging out the exposure time. The lights are stationary and the lines are swept out as the car moves during the exposure.

The sense of motion is even more pronounced in this one. I can't quite put my finger on it as to why though. Maybe it's the slight curvature to the lines in the background
Johnna: I'm glad you liked the pics. I can think of a few places back in Denver that would be good for this type of thing.
blacknblue: I haven't put my finger on it either, but #5 is also my favorite. I think you're onto something regarding the background curvature.
