I'll actually be getting the Very Busy Man for a computer bag and the Next Venue for a Camera bag - didn't want the same bag for both as there is too many sacrifices in a one does all bag and hardly ever carry them at the same time unless traveling and then i'll just bring both bags. Plus if I can ever talk the wifey into that new epson p2000 i won't need to really ever bring the laptop

 

Perhaps a SB-600... although I think I may hold off and save for the Sigma f/2.8 70-200 that I've been lusting over.

 

Maybe a D2x or the 200-400 f/4 VR AF-S lens. I hope, anyway. We shall see.

Well after looking into the VR lenses some more it looks like I could afford the Nikkor 24mm-120mm VR lens, especially since I could then sell the 18-70mm kit lens. The 120mm would semi-satisfy my need for a telephoto for a while anyway. Sounds like a plan to me, we'll see how it works out! Anybody know a good place to sell lenses?

 

I wouldn't sell you D70 kit lens. The wide angle is going to be hard to replace for anything approaching what you'd get for a used D70 kit lens.

 

That's true, but I honestly don't use the wide angle much at all, the 24mm on the 24-120 should be plenty. There really isn't that big of a difference between 27 and 36mm. I guess I'll have to start paying more attention to when I'm shooting with the D70 if I could use 24mm in all the situations I've been using 18mm in. hmmm

 

I took a look at the Crumpler site tonight. That looks like a nice bag.

The only problem I have with most of the crumpler bags is I'd like to be able to carry my D70 with a (yet to be purchased) 70-200 F/2.8 mounted to the camera body. That lens is 8.5" long (+1.0" for a 1.4X tele converter). That's what has me leaning towards the Lowepro Photo Trekker or Nature Trekker.

 

The next venue is 11" tall so that would be very close if you went straight up and down...the TAll-E is 12" tall same style just not as long. Company Embarrasement is 13" tall. The thing i don't like about lowepro bags is they look like camera bags screaming "valuable goods" inside. The Crumpler shoulder bags are more of messenger looking bag. Though I'm sure I will end up with a Crumpler backpack eventually as well for times when i'm carrying stuff for LONG periods of time..but for most i like to have a shoulder bag as you can very quickly pull stuff in and out...but downside being it isn't as comfortable for lugging around for several days.

 

Well so much for my list... I'm going to Hawaii the 26th of Dec. for New Years and figured I should have a telephoto by then... so I went ahead and ordered the Nikkor 70-300G. From what I've read it can't be beat for 100 bucks, and It'll be nice to have a nice light (and I hate to say this... but somewhat "disposable") tele even after I get the scrap together for the Sigma F/2.8 EX 70-200 or the Nikkor F/2.8 70-200 VR.

 

What I like about Lowepro bags is their protective padding. Some of them may hint at what's inside but that also depends on your demeanor. A Lowepro ain't a Halliburton.

This afternoon I purchased a couple of Lowepro bags- the D-Res 30AW, to hold the D70 body, and, the smaller, Z 20 for the kit lens. These will tuck pretty well into the backpack I'll use as a carry-on.

The compartments in the Burton bag allow me to pack quite a few photo goodies, including film, memory cards, batteries, card readers, and my laptop (with its AC adaptor).

 

What's on my list??? A 1 gig flash memory card for the Nikon and plenty of time to use it up!

I used that coupon earlier today to get 77mm filters (UV and Circular Polarizer). I almost snagged the Kenko 1.4 converter, but decided to hold off a bit on that.

Then later tonight ordered the 70-200 :smile: F/2.8 VR from B&H.

Speaking of Christmas, I also did some real Christmas shopping for family today, some of it photo related. My mom has been dropping hints about wanting a tripod and photoshop elements.

I got the 70-300G in last night and for the money it really is a great lens! I've got a 100% crop from a handheld ISO1600 300mm shot and its quite impressive for 100 bucks.

 

No more camera gear purchases for me for a while. Hopefully Nikon pulls through with getting my D70 back to me shortly. My anticipation is only going to get magnified if the camera isn't back yet when the 70-200 shows up.

RE: 70-300G I remember you mentioning that was manual focus right? Post up the picture you took.

 

Here is a 100% crop from the picture. As I said before its 300mm handheld, ISO1600. The lens is AF, pretty slow but it gets the job done.

 

That is good. I'm actually surprised ISO 1600 did so well.

 

Yeah, I'm suprised it was that nice at ISO1600, especially handheld at 300mm. For me this lens was probably a much better value than the equally priced 50mm f1.8. Either way for an extra 200 bucks my D70 is now a lot more versatile.
