I had a chance to play some more with the Nikon Nikkor 55mm Macro which is not made any more... its now a 60mm Macro (more here). Anyways, here are some of the pics I took. The one with the S has a touch of photoshop. The rest are pretty much raw images... some have auto levels (a few look better without correction) and of course sizing down.

First up is the Antena shot... slight crop on it...

The "S", the tire, and the exhaust are my favorites.

On the exhaust photo, did you crop off the bottom edge after the fact or was that done on camera? It would be nice if just a little more of the exhaust was in the picture.

The "MINI" photo, the plastic hexagon ribbing, and the inlet scoop photo look like they could have been stopped down just a touch more so that there was a little bit more of the subject in focus.

Very nice work all the way around though. I'm sure it was fun to compose shots with that lens specifically in mind.

 

I know they're a little hot. I shot many different shots of them all with bracketing, but the hot ones look the coolest!!! Thanks for the comments DiD. That plastic bits under the engine were hard to shoot well... I didnt really care for that shot, but figured why not include it. The cropping on the exhaust tips is done through the camera. Again, some have auto levels and some dont

No prob DiD. Looks good. I played around with that shot a lot, but I am really into the "morning blue" filter. I was playing around with the levels on that shot... the original shot I took with a low F-stop to loose the depth... with the Macro shots I like to keep the depth of field small.... kinda makes it seem "closer." Does that make sense??? Anyways, looks good DiD. Did you use a filter??? I want to pick up KAI power tools for photoshop 7 and get some more "fun" filters! I really like adding film grain to shots... I like that a lot. I go in phases!

 

Levels: initially RGB together, then channel by channel adjustment
Duplicated the layer
Desaturated the top layer without flattening
Levels on the desaturated layer
Lasso tool to trace the "S" on the desaturated layer, then "clear" to erase
That way the S below would show through
Flatten
Blur tool to blend the boundary around the S
