Canon Rebel Xti
Canon 100-400 f/4.5-5.6L IS USM
Tamron superzoom (can't remember which)
Borrowed Canon 70-200 f/2.8L USM (wow wow wow, what a lens)

Going to buy
24-70 f/2.8L USM
or
24-105 f/4L IS USM
if I can ever decide which one. I like the IS and the extra reach. But, the 70-200 is so vastly Superior to my 100-400, I'm guessing the 24-70 f/2.8L is also superior. Most of my shots are wildlife/outdoors and dog agility - so faster is better.
Any advice appreciated.
Also if i get the 24-70, I may have to buy myself the 70-200 f/2.8L and that's a serious chunk of change.

also going to buy a new superzoom, i trashed my Tamron when two dogs got in a serious bloodbath fight in front of me and I was compelled to try and save the small one's life (he servivied, but only thanks to two other guys running in and the 3 of us doing all we could to pull the big dog off of him). My camera/superzoom were around my neck and the lens got beat up pretty bad.

I want a fun piece of glass, but I don't want to break my bank.

I am toying with the idea of a wide angle type lense. Any suggestions? I have a Canon XSi.

17-40 F4L

I love mine. Or if you want to go for something that is really wide, the Canon 10-22 (my next purchase). Both are great for car photography

I've owned both. I currently use the 24-70mm L. It's a brick (heavy) but great saturation. I thought the 24-105 L was a great lens and it is. Light and good reach.

Can't go wrong with either, but personally, I think the 24-70mm helps me produce higher image quality pictures and I will take the f/2.8 over the IS for this range. (fairly easy to handhold steady)

Depends how wide. I use a Sigma 17/70 on my XSi and it's excellent. Good image quality and little or no chromatic aberration at the edges. I'm surprised how little lens flare there is even with the sun in-frame. Also, it will focus right up until the lens is physically touching the subject. Quite compact and light for what it is at a reasonable price point. Very happy with it. It makes a good single lens if you don't want to be swapping all the time (which I don't! )

Canon have shake-reduction on their lenses, which could be handy for hand-held shots, but their lenses didn't get such good reviews as the Sigma.

(Note: I don't use auto-focus, so I can't vouch for how well the Sigma handles that)

BTW I recommend getting a polarizing filter as well.

Awesome. Thanks for the suggestions, guys. I have some food for thought and some ideas where to start. Now begins the whining to the missus for my b-day!

Buy the Sigma 10-22mm for your Canon. Wide angle is so much fun! I don't want to ramble on with why I am qualified to say this but you really should go check it out. A lot of pictures I've sold at art shows have been made with this lens. The perspectives you can get are awesome!

Another Canon Shooter

I've been shooting Canon for a long time. Great gear. I will try to post some more shots of my mini on here soon. I quickly put one up on the gallery today.

Figured I'd join in.

Canon XTi
Canon 18-55 (non-IS)
Canon 50 1.8
Quantaray 70-300

I know, I know, Quantaray.. but it gets the job done.

We're using a Canon Rebel eos. Great camera. We were using the Canon Elph but after a while, it just wasn't getting the pix we thought it should. I get just as good low light shots but the motion shots are much better. I highly recommend this camera.
