If they won't fling their doors open for you, there's WAMO a couple hours south down I35. Find us on Facebook: WAMO Wichita or yahoo groups WAMO_KS

I tried the link above but the server appears to be down. My parents are moving to Topeka, or the Topeka area, in July and we were wondering if y'all had any recommendations of places to live, places to go, places to avoid, anything? My parents are more than likely looking for a house similar to what they have now: 3500 sq. ft., 5 bedrooms, 4 baths, 3 car garage, nice neighborhood, .5 acre+ yard. No one in our family has ever lived in Kansas before so this is a new experience. Does Topeka get enough snow to warrant buying snow tires? I have them for my MINI in Boston and I love them. Any advice is appreciated! Thanks!

Drove thru Topeka once so can't help with locations. Kansas weather is anything it want's to be as long as it is inconvenient. Snow rarely hangs on more than a day or three so all season tires are usually up to the task.

This 'hook 'em horns' bidness... along the I-70 corridor you'll be better served to flip a coin between the Jayhawks or the Wildcats. Agieville in Manhattan has some killer saloons.

If you tire of Kansas weather, wait two minutes and it'll change. PS- it used to be a five minute wait.

Hey everyone I am very interested in knowing if there is a Kansas Club local to the Manhattan Area. I was stationed at Ft Riley Kansas and now attend Kansas State and would love to go to a meet or become a member of a local club. I see a few minis here and there but we need more!

Lotsa luck with that. We make a nana trip to the little apple fairly regularly and from the occasional MINI we see, there is rarely a wave. I think they are mostly transient dorm or barracks dwellers much like yourself.

Im not really sure how to take what you said there But anyways there are a few of us serious Mini maniacs at Kansas State and we always wave when we see fellow mini drivers. And I have a house in Manhattan, so I am not a barracks dweller, and have never lived in the dorms thank you!

Read your own post, just going by what you stated. Ft Riley then K-State, that description fits a multitude of folk from outside the immediate vicinity, i.e. 'transient'.

If you happen to be in the Wichita area look up the Wichita Area Mini Owners (WAMO). We are on facebook as WAMO Wichita. The KC Mini Enthusiasts are probably your closest bet though. You can always start your own group too. Good luck!

Sorry to revive such an ancient thread BUT is WAMO still around? My son just got an R53 and I'll be getting back into one "soon" as well after getting rid of my 06 BRG in 2017. Just looking for some like-minded people in the Wichita area.

Old time member here, not sure things could start up like they used to be. The brand has lost a lot of the old Gen 1 excitement, hardly ever get a MINI wave. It would be fun though to wake up the old 'butcow' and 'cowbut' drives, sadly, the Dexter candy factory is gone. We went to MITO last year with another Gen 1 friend, it is still well attended.

Well, that's unfortunate but understandable. Has most of the Wichita Mini scene gone towards the BMW meet-ups or just stopped showing up? I'm less concerned about a Gen 1 club and more interested in a Mini club. When I was in Vegas, the Sin City Mini Club was a blast (when I could make it to meet ups) and I was hoping my son could experience something similar here without needing to make the trek to KC.

Well, back when the club was at its most active, Gen1 was the predominate model. My co-pilot's car is a '15 R60, about as MINI (in my opinion) as a '55 Studabaker station wagon but it does what she needs it to do.

I was wondering if the prior owner of my son's might be somewhat active. It's a silver and black R53 with a Milltek exhaust and DDM intake (amongst other upgrades). He would have sold it in Feb 2025 and stated in the note I was given by the person we bought it from that they also have a Cayman. The guy we bought it from strictly used it as a commuter car and definitely didn't know what he had. I've got some questions about what other modifications were done ... it behaves as though it's got a intercooler upgrade and possibly a tune but I honestly don't know. I know how to check the intercooler, but I need the free time and a good weather weekend to be here before I start tinkering in the engine bay.

LOL. I'm personally more fond of the first gens but I really like the roadster. If I could find a clean JCW one, I might find my way into one ... but that'll be months from now.

If we could get a few folk lined up for next fall, the Elk Falls Outhouse Tour would be a fun activity. We've been several times and the trip is well worth it.
