Mentor Wanted - SW WI
Mentor Wanted - SW WI
Greetings!
Rupert Marvolo, a 2009 JCW Chili Red Clubman came home with me in July. Since that time, I've been trying to learn as much as I can to enable me to provide Rupert with a loving home.
Owning a Mini has been a dream of mine for decades, and now it's a reality. Rupert is here! While he's tucked safe and warm in the garage right now, I'd like to learn as much as I can about caring for him from someone who is familiar with the environment we contend with here in SW WI. I live about 2.5hrs NW of Madison.
The information on this site is invaluable, and I appreciate it very much!
However, I would really like to meet someone in person to discuss issues specific to the car and the local environment (SW Wisconsin).
I have attempted to reach out on the Madison Minis site, but no one seems available or interested - or I'm doing something very wrong.
Is there anyone out there in MN, IA, IL, or WI who would be interested in meeting on occasion and/or exchanging emails to discuss Minis? It would be so helpful to me and my husband to have a knowledgeable person with advice about products, driving tips, accessories and anecdotes. Please?
Everything here is wonderful... but it can also be overwhelming. Quite honestly, I would like to benefit from your triumphs and mistakes. Please help me out here and be my "mini buddy".
Sincerely,
Annette K

Hi. Maybe tis the season...lol. What I mean, folks are busy with the holidays, weather, travel, work and the like.
If you went to Mad City's web site and registered, you'll hear back from them, just give it some time due to the holidays.
Congrats on that new Mini Cooper! My wife and I both enjoy how the Clubman looks in Chili Red!

Thank you so much for the response... I've attempted to email the Mad City club a few times but feel as if I am intruding or something... very curt replies. Perhaps it's my demeanor or doing something "not right".
Sigh...
I have this beautiful driving machine and no one to share with!
I realize there is so much valuable info in these forums and on this site, but it's hard for me to navigate all the threads... it would just be so nice to actually speak with someone familiar with the car and the challenges (and assets!) of Midwest driving.
Right now Rupert's parked away, safe and sound from the snow and salt - and other drivers! - my only joy is to start him up for a bit every week... I'd like to order some products before his coming out in Spring, but want to get good things that are truly quality and useful.
Anyway... thanks. Maybe things will "open up" more in the Spring.

Hi Annette!
I don't think you're doing anything wrong! It is a very slow time of year - no one wants to do runs in this kind of weather!
I know we had a hard time getting connected with you on our last run...we were leading 20 cars and it was just very difficult with all the turns, to figure out where we were, where we were going, and how to find someone off-route. Add that to spotty cell coverage and it just didn't work
There are some great photos of the run in the MCM forum though!
I think our schedule usually comes out late winter (this year was my first year with MCM, so not 100% sure). Just keep an eye out on the website!

Don't forget about us, Annette. We're not that far away and would be happy to join the Madison folks as a resource for you.
Here's our website: http://www.easterniowaminis.org

...and you're always welcome to PM me.
(This is the first I've noticed your post; otherwise, I would have chimed in long ago)

Thank you so much for messaging me! I was soooo disappointed about the Wildcat trip! I wanted to meet you AT the 80/D intersection... sigh. I do understand, though. I am really hoping to get out with mini-smarts people when Rupert comes out of the barn. Right now I want to buy some items, but would really like to hear what people from WI have to say about some things.
Thanks again - I will be watching for announcements!

Annette,
Welcome to the MINI-obsession from MAD-Town, WI. I've had my MINI for just over a year now, Capt'n Jack is my daily driver and this is by far the most fun I've had driving! I work full-time at the WI DOT, but I'm free on most week-ends, so if you plan to come in to Madison for a week-end of shopping & motoring, send me a PM and we can get together! I'm glad to hear that you are not totally neglecting Rupert while he is out in the barn.

Welcome!!
I live in the Chicagoland area, but sometimes we are out in Lake Redstone/Lavalle area at my wifes family cottage. Usually in a bigger car, but we sometimes pack up the family and head out there in one of the the MINIs.

Greetings Annette!
Fellow Madison Mini Motor'er here.
I've actually become very familiar with my mini over the last year or so. I bought one to have the motor fail within the first couple weeks of driving.
Having a mechanical background, I decided to rebuild the motor myself. I went with .020 over CP pistions from Jan on this site, as well as some other things, and have learned endless amounts of information on this forum.
Feel free to shoot me a message if you have any questions.
I look forward to motoring with the mini group this coming spring. And hopefully with many more mods!
