Thinking about moving to ATL, any thoughts?
Thinking about moving to ATL, any thoughts?
Hi! My name is RJ and I currently live in Denver, CO but I am thinking of moving to the Atlanta, GA area. Would anyone please chime in and tell me their likes, dis-likes about the city. I was looking to either live near the Perimeter Mall or the part of town called "Cabbage Town." I have only visited ATL before, and never for any extended period of time. What should I expect in a move from Denver to Atlanta?
Thanks guys and gals in advance!

CULTURE SHOCK!!! really. I left Atlanta for Macon to get rid of the traffic (and chase a redhead). I wouldn't do it if I were you.
Likes:
"New South" cosmopolitan city.
Not much snow.
Spring in Atlanta is gorgeous! think Magnolia's.
Great weather in spring
Close to the North Ga mountains (45 min.), and the beaches (four hours)
Dislikes:
Traffic and lack of up to date public transportation.
fewer independent restaurants
Tornadoes, Lots of severe weather in spring and summer
Too many Damn Yankees
Blue laws on alcohol still in place.
Takes too long to get anywhere.
Brutally hot summers.
Not much outdoorsy things to do.

I just made a very similar move. I'm from Colorado but have been in Boise, ID for the last five years and just moved to Atlanta area.
I work in Atlanta and live outside in a smaller community (Kennesaw).
I have enjoyed it so far. It is very different than what I'm used to, but that is to be expected.
As stated above, traffic is heavy, but the public transportation is A LOT more accessible than most areas in Denver. I use it every day to commute and it is not really a big deal. I don't have to drive in the traffic once I get to my park and ride. I can just sit and read, sleep or use the computer as I ride almost directly to my office.
There are lots of things to do around the area, it's just different than Colorado. That's not a bad thing.
I know I am coming on late to this post, but if you have specific questions, let me know.
cheers,
dag

Hey I moved Way Motor Works here almost 2yrs ago now. And I have to say I LOVE IT here. You'll like it and be much warmer than CO. Best advise I can give is to live close to your work, traffic here can be bad.
