UPDATE (5/13/09): It's time to book your motel room, especially if you plan to stay at the Melody Ranch. They only have 19 rooms in the motel and we can't block all of them ahead of time. So even if you're not completely sure about going, book a room now anyway. You can always cancel it later.
Some details are already falling into place, but there are lots of things still in the early planning stages, so watch for updates in the coming months. You'll have plenty of choices and options in activities, routes, entertainment, etc. Some people may be exploring Hwy 1 behind the wheel of a MINI, while others are golfing, wine tasting, etc.
There will be something for everyone. So pencil in those dates and stay tuned for future updates.
Tentative Schedule (Updated 6/01/09)
Friday
8 a.m. meetup at Denny's in Sylmar
8:30 a.m. departure from Denny's (Route map will be posted here later)
Reststop at STARBUCKS in Wheeler Ridge (North end of the Grapevine)
There is also a Starbucks at the I-5/58 junction for anyone who needs it.
North on I-5 to 58 West (this section is beautiful) to 229 North (yes, this is the famous Hwy 229)
Optional lunch at The Loading Chute on Hwy 229 in Creston
Continue on back road into Paso Robles
Optional stop on Templeton Road at Olea Farms for olive oil, homemade jams, and other tasty treats. They have a tasting room.
Arrive in Paso Robles - check-in, relax a bit, take in some of the town, etc.
SCMM Happy Hour (location and time to be determined, but probably 4:30-6:30pm, or maybe to 7pm). This is a chance for everyone to gather and socialize after driving up that day.
Saturday
Breakfast on your own
9 a.m. Optional Hwy 1 drive. Still working on the details, but am looking at a group lunch at the Ragged Point Inn. After lunch some people may want to continue north on Hwy 1, others can return to Paso Robles for a walking wine tour in downtown Paso Robles, or visit Cambria, Harmony or San Simeon.
In additional to the run to Ragged Point, there will be two, or possibly three, different runs to choose from on Saturday, depending on how far you feel like driving and what you want to do, i.e sightseeing, shopping, wine tasting, etc.
Return to Paso Robles by late afternoon.
Group dinner that evening. I'll have the dinner details posted soon. The Paso Robles Inn only has live entertainment on Friday nights now, so we'll have to check out the other places in town for live entertainment.
Sunday
Open -- Stay in Paso Robles as long as your wish. No organized run/activity planned.
Please check out the SoCal thread if you have any interest in attending this fun run.
