Questions about replacing brake pads

I just got my car back from MAG (they fixed my sticking clutch pedal by replacing the clutch, flywheel, and guide tube ) and they said my rear brakes are down to 3mm. They recommend replacing the rear pads and rotors. I had been thinking about replacing all the pads to cut down on brake dust, so now I'm wondering if I should do all the rotors as well? MAG's estimate was $569 to do the back pads and rotors, but I'm sure I can get the parts for front and back cheaper. How hard is it to replace the pads and rotors?

I watched Chuck switch mine out it was very easy The Hawk pads are really nice not much dust, they do lose the initial bite of the stock pads.

According most techs. I've spoken with, the MINI rotors are too thin to turn, so you you probably need the new rotors. If you don't change the rotors when you change pads, the pads will not interface with the rotors properly and cause poor breaking and vibration. Also, the pads in the front are designed to wear at the same rate as the rears, so you're likely to need front pads and rotors as well.

Brian I've sent you a PM.

Aaron can get you the parts you need. Outmotoring FTW.

Nice to see MAG coming through again for another MINI owner.

That is very nice of MAG for fixing your clutch under warranty. Lucky you.

I agree with Chuck on buying rear rotors and low dust pads from OutMotoring, pick them up with no shipping fees at the next breakfast, and I can help you install them. It's a straight forward simple job. I've replaced my rear pads and rotors a couple times and Yuriy's once with no problems or issues thus far.

I don't know much, but I do know that my rear brakes/rotors had to be replaced way before the front. These would be 03 originals. Rears replaced at about 30k by MAG. Fronts still fine at 48k. This report came to me via Chuck's Superior Garage and Opinion Services.
