Spoiler Install...

Anyone here ever install a 'S' spoiler onto their MC(R50)? I picked one up here in the Market and now have to figure out how to ensure it stays on the boot! Just a reminder, I have the stock MC spoiler installed already, so I'm thinking it should just be a simple swap, but want to be sure before I "rip" the old one off!

Much thanks!

How I did it (same R50 to R53 swap)

1.) remove 2 plastic covers underneath
2.) remove 2 nuts
3.) fishing line to remove old adhesive
4.) buff and clean area under old R50 wing (it will show now with the r53 wing)
5.) 3m double stick body mastic around contact points (near nuts)
6.) carefully guide bolts through existing holes
7.) thread nuts on and tighten (not to tight as they are held in by plastic)
8.) after a few days check nuts for tight but really the mastic holds it on once it has warmed up a few times in the sun.

I had to go to a local body shop to get it the stuff they had at auto zone was thin and you need a thicker stuff so that it makes contact

I would guess 1/8th inch thick or so

You can also use 3M moulding Adhesive tape (it comes in a roll) and cut stripes to cover the area ....

I made mention in PM however I will also post here.

other notes.

1.) wait for warm day and leave in sun to get the roof nice and warm
2.) hair dryer to continue heating the old fin
3.) WD 40 melts the old adhesive very well just remember to clean it up and not leave it sit on the paint to long.

Nvm, looks like a near-by Pepboys has the double-sided foam tape in 1/2" width for pretty cheap... good deal!

Any ideas where I could get some of this? I've tried searching online and have looked at local auto stores, but not having any luck...

Can anyone give advice if holes need to be drilled?

it was my understanding that if you had the stock/OEM spoiler on it to begin with, that no holes would need to be drilled... but you might want to check with the dealership.

Actually, my Cooper had no prior spoiler on it. This will be the first. That's why I want to make sure I get the drilling right.
