George Carlin Replaced!!!!
Hello all,
Sorry I missed breakfast Saturday morning, BUT I did have some Tim Hortons at St. Ann's Hospital while my wife was early in labor!!!
So short story 2:15 PM Byron Digby Lloyd was born weighing in at 7 pounds 3 ounces and measuting 19.5 inches long/tall.
Long story, last weekend was to be my last weekend of freedom and solo fun before the baby came (he was due July 23rd). So my friend Drew came to town Thursday night and we went golfing Friday after a shower my co-workers threw. Jill was supossed to go to NY for a shower her family was throwing for her Saturday morning, but she was not feeling well and went to see her OBGYN who said everything looked fine, but Jill should stay home this weekend. Friday night we all go to bed...
2:00 Jill goes to the bathroon and when she comes back to bed her water broke. I convinced her to sit tight for an hour and then we would go to the hospital, honestly I was tired an knew if this was it I was going to need some more zzzz's.
3:00 rolls around and we get ready to go, of course we did not have "the bag" ready, but Jill had a bag ready for her trip to NY so we took that and a few other things we saw on our way out. Our dog Monk gave us a look as we passed him and headed out the door.
4:00 we get to the hospital and the nurses say they have a test to see if the water truly was broken...test results water broken, we were not leaving the hospital until the baby was out and about.
Most of the night we were able to sleep and rest, knowing that soon we would be a family of three, well four if you cound Monk
8:00 rolls around and we make a few calls to Jill's parents and my pal Drew called asking where the heck we went. Drew decided he was not feeling well and was going to go back to Detroit and we said have a safe drive. About 15 minutes later it hits me we need to find a place for Monk to stay. I call back only to find out that Drew had just shut the door behind him and it was locked. He ended up climbing in through a window as sirens sounded. Worried he went to a neighbor who said she would take care of it if the cops showed up. Back in Drew calls to get directions and before I could tell him where to go he says "Ohh **** Monk" and the phone call ends. Monk had escaped. About 15 minutes later Drew calls back and Monk has been aprehended. He then drops him off at Watson's house for the rest of the story.
Back at the hospital the nurses give Jill some drugs to speed up the contractions and as the day goes by they slowly increase in strength, althought Jill handles it so well the doctors think she is not progressing (dialation still 4 to 5 became the doctors battle cry). They decided to use some crazy internal presure monitor to get a better idea of the contraction strength and almost fall down when they see the contractions are really strong. Jill continues to soldgier on and relax and breath through the pain just like she learned in Hypnobirthing classes. Finnaly at around 1:50 Jill asks about the epidural. The doctor checks and says dialation is now 9 and the choices are wait 30 minutes for an epidural to kick in or rock out for 30 minutes and have the baby. Jill decided to keep on keeping on and after the first contraction pushing the baby was crowning (again the doctor was startled to see teh babies head it was very funny). Two more contractions and the baby was out!
2:30 I called the Kapple house to give them the news, the baby shower was taking place so they all cheered for Digby!!!
We spent the rest of Saturday in the hospital learning how to take care of Digby and getting some well deserved rest. Sunday Gram B and Aunt Lynn came over to meet him and then Monday at 5:00 we were released to come home.
We all look forward to introducing you to Digby soon.
Take care,
Allen, Jill, & Digby...and Monk too I guess
Pictures to come soon, but I need to get some more sleep right now.
