WTB: Toggle switch

I'm just wanting to install it in my rear fog place and use it to open the garage door. Thanks!

switch

You will need to use an after market one. As the factories only work through the circuit board. I just installed a lit factory switch and placed a led behind it so it lights up orange. And put the third one on the bottom row to light up the storage area better. Along with three resistors to make the leds brighter.

To clarify, you CAN use the factory toggles, but you'll need a circuit, like Ian's Auto-up module to intercept the signal and do something with it. I use Ian's circuit for my garage door opener.

Ok, so say I don't want to ever have rear fogs. Can I purchase the garage door thing from Ian, and hook it up to the rear fog switch? How does it hook up? I thought there was only one connection on the back of the toggle switch panel. Thanks guys!

Yes - most likely. It certainly can be done, as Ian built me a GDO for a friend using the non-existant ASC toggle (I added the toggle.) You'll have to ask Ian GBMINI@minisontop.com, or GBMINI here on NAM, if he's still making custom circuits.

Check out:
http://www.gbmini.net/MINIcircuit/index.shtml
for circuit details. It uses a multi-pin connector in between the toggle rack's male connector an the OEM female connector. The in-line circuit intercepts the signals from the toggle rack and (in your case, for example) reroutes the signal to a garage door opener. As an added bonus you get the auto-up windows.

I do have a toggle still in my stock and I am prepared to include it in the purchase of a MINI circuit ...

Fitting the toggle will not give you rear fogs (you still need to have the feature activated by MINI) - also the rear fog tip LED is missing from the circuit board so fitting a switch only is not the way to go if you ever want rear fogs (you would never know if they were on or off).

Yes he is
Thanks Eric!

Well, I won't ever want the rear fogs, so if adding a switch into my existing bank + your GDO and auto up window circuit will work with each other, consider it sold! Are there instructions that would help me along with this? Is it relatively easy to install? If you could explain the process a little (circuit plugs into switch?), I would appreciate it. Thanks

I have Ian's circuit with auto up windows, dsc track mode, and the auto front fog piggyback--one of the best purchases I ever made.

As for the garage door opener, I'm suprised more people don't just buy the homelink rearview mirror. The car is already pre-wired for it and it keeps your interior looking 100% stock and not hacked up. Also, it doesn't prevent you from adding rear fogs if you ever decide to (pretty cheap--about $90 in parts plus activation) and won't negatively impact the value of your car.

It installs in seconds, (just plug in the connector and twist it on), and actually can control 3 devices (I've programmed 1 button for garage door, 1 button for my community's gate, and I still have a 3rd button for future stuff (ie. landscape lights, door locks, etc).

Since I didn't order the car with this option, I just went up to the dealership and bought one ($190 with 10% club discount). And, you can keep your regular garage door opener for another car, rather than having to modify it and install it behind your dash.

That's $190 without the autodimming feature, correct? I read somewhere that in order to have the auto-dimming feature, that mirror was close to $400 bucks. I currently have the auto-dim, and would like to keep it. Thanks for the suggestion though

I have already inquired about this for my 2004. Do me a favor if you will. Remove your mirror and tell/show us how it is wired. I would like to be able to retrofit this into my car but I need to know what the wiring harness looks like to the mirror or where it ties into the wiring in the harness in the headliner.

There is lots of documentation on my website

Depending on your garage opener remote, you might need to solder two wires from the MINI circuit to the remote ... we can discuss this more easily by email (in the past, I have even done the soldering for folks that sent their opener to me).

Soldering isn't an issue. I've already done that. Actually, when I was looking at purchasing a Mini 2-3 yrs ago, I saw the DIY homelink write-up (add a button to the interior, and solder to the motherboard of the GDO). Well, I ended up purchasing a Jetta, but did the DIY homelink button install in it. So all I need is the GDO circuit, and your extra switch that you have, correct?

Thanks!

The "switched" version of MINI circuit will provide two wires that mimic pressing the switch. You solder them to either side of the transmit switch in your opener - no doubt the same two points you already soldered too.

By default the MINI circuit will activate that output when you hold the door lock/unlock toggle up or down for more than half a second.
But you can request me to give you a different program, so that it is triggered from the rear fog toggle instead.
