Yah I am like that with my current bmw dealer. I love the guys up here. First rate service everytime I take the X3 in. They are dying to see the Mini. They were like OMG we need to go hit the track in that thing .

I'm working on trying to see if I can find out the part number of just the pulley and find out if it can be pillaged off the production line somehow with it's own part number.

My point is, get in good with the parts guy, and the skys the limit. Slip him a $50.00 for a "Christmas gift" or "Holiday gift" and next time you go in and need a weird part you shouldn't have a problem. I used to go to another BMW dealership where I was their so often I knew everyone their and their kids, I even went on a picnic with the staff one time, I could have any weird part I wanted, even if it was listed "only with purchase of...." or "not available seperatly" just need to grease the wheels a bit is all.

I am sure there is a way to get that pulley but I doubt it will be through a BMW dealer. Maybe someone can contact eaton and get the pulley that way ? Since they cone on the SC it should be safe to assume that eaton will have access or at least a part # and vendor for that pulley.

Just curious why we are looking to put a JCW pulley on instead of a 15% pulley?

There is no way you will be able to get this pulley alone from the factory. There is no number for it nor will Mini sell it by itself....I just got off the phone with parts technical and also called my guy at MINI NA whos in charge of JCW and thats what they told me.

I have been going over in my mind on how the heck to press the bugger on the shaft, without bending it . Yah I figured as much. I was thinking about the JCW pulley, cause it seemed like a sly way to to get the reduction while not having the service department yelling and saying that the pulley caused the problem

See, thats what i hate.....i cant flame my own company but i see it all over from what others tell me.

The first thing a tech does is see whats the issue is on the repair order and then goes right into blaming the aftermarket part on the vehicle for the problem at hand.

I had a company tell ME that my header on my Nissan Spec V was the cause of my engine needing to be replaced...That was before i even told them where i worked....i asked them how can that be possible, and they commented by telling me due to excessive back pressure due to the header. needless to say.....i changed the head gasket myself which was the problem and it was fine after that. O yea....it was a Nissan Nizmo header by the way.

Techs are so quick to blame other components on the car before they even investigate the problem first. I call those parts changers who shouldnt even be in a shop let alone a dealership.

Yah I kinda understand that. Most are quite... UHHH DUH! The tech who works on my X3, is really a great guy and knows his stuff really well. In fact that reminds me that it is the holiday season and time to go find some 6 packs for them

I am hoping that the techs where I bought my mini are just as good. I would really hate to go from super service at my bmw dealer to nissan quality service. Anyone who has walked into a bmw service center and had a good experience then walked into a nissan dealer you can see the differences quite well

rofl, quite standard usually .

Me: "My a/c is acting up, there is no cold air coming out of it."
Service guy :"Hey isn't that a cold air intake?"
Me:"Uhhh yah."
Service guy: "well thats the problem, the intake isn't pointed in the right direction."
Me:"Where is your manager?"
Service guy: "In the back"
Service Manager: "Whats the problem?"
Me:"I think your tech needs to go back to school sir. He thinks the reason the a/c isn't working is because the cold air intake isn't pointed correctly."
Service Manager: "Well it's TRUE!"
Me: "GOD! CHARGE THE A/C U KNUCKLE HEADS!"

I think this is the one we all fear . Lucky BMW techs know there stuff.

Don't leave us hanging... Which way should the CAI point for proper A/C operation?

I'm not trying to burst your bubble or anything, but it really won't matter if you have a JCW pulley or brand X pulley. The service department will need to drive your car if you take it in to have work done. Chances are they will notice if your car is faster than a stock one, and the only time they will make a fuss about it is if your mods caused the problem. (an intake won't have any effect on your A/C system)

A JCW pulley won't harm the warranty - but only if you have the whole JCW setup on your car. Having bits and pieces could be an issue.

FWIW a 17% pulley will blow the doors off of a 15% pulley

And a 15% car vs another 15% car with the right tuning will do the same.

The thing is....Using either a JCW or a "brand-x" pulley will void your warranty if it leads up to the pulley like MFC said....Id just go get something so you can go play now, than alot later. My .02

Can't a broken belt...

let the tensioner what the SC pully? If so, it should be a service part. Sorry if I'm mis-informed, it wouldn't be the first time...

The SC pully is whacked. That will be $3500! Yikes!

Matt

I dont see the point of reinstalling a used pulley on aused pulley shaft Ithink you are asking for trouble.Any new aftermarket pulley is going to fit more securely since it is designed to adjust for a variation in dia of th used shaft.
