WTB: Harmonic Balancer Puller for Pulley Replacement

I just ordered an Alta 15% reduction pulley and I am looking for the correct harmonic balancer puller to aid in the install. Anyone have one they are looking to unload (or maybe loan?). It beats me having to run around to the different auto parts stores trying to find the right one. Thx

You need a *supercharger* pulley removal tool. You can rent them from a few places or you can buy one:

Try here

or

Here

I have used this tool successfully over 10 times now.

Thanks for the heads up. Ordered mine from Webb Motorsports and Randy told me to track down the harmonic balancer puller (HBP) and he would loan me the Alta pulley puller. Maybe I will wait to see what shows up. If anyone one does have a HBP let me know. Thx again.

You won't find the correct pullers at any auto parts store. Just get to your closest BMW/Mini dealer and get them at the parts dept. If one is not close to you then have one mailed to you.

The crank pullers are a Mini specialty tool. I forgot the part #s, but here is a photo of tools you will need.
Top is the tensioner bar
Middle and bottom tools are for pulling the crank pulley.

They are not that expencive.

Randy Webb uses a generic 'crow foot " style harmonic balancer puller, available almost anywhere ( napa , pep boys etc.) wait till you get the actual pulley tool from him and take it into your local auto parts store to make sure the'll line up with each other.good luck ...you'll love the results!

So he is loaning you the "clamshell" portion of the *supercharger* puller? You can use a Sears/Craftsman HBP then to tug on the "clamshell" to get your stock *supercharger* pulley off.

Did you order a *crankshaft* pulley too?

I'll be done with my harmonic puller and will be offering it to the NAM group if interested. Bought it from the local BMW dealer after trying several work arounds w/o success.
