I WILL DEFEND JASON TUNER!!!!!, all of you are beating Jason up because you think he is selling cars for to high a price, when in all actuality the only reason for frustration is the fact that the Mini dealer he works for is one of the only retailers in the area that has a great selection of Mini Cooper S’s. I know a few people in San Diego that bought Mini Cooper S’s at the San Diego dealer; they actually purchased a car and did not just complain about the price. I know they were satisfied by the business transaction they completed with Brecht, satisfied on all levels, sales, service and price. It is easy to complain on the Internet and make the Mini dealership in San Diego seem like a huge profiteering machine that does not care about its customers but I will say that all of the people I have met at Brecht have been honest, straightforward people. I have one last question for all of you, if Brecht offered cars at MSRP would you get in your car right now and buy one? Think about that and see if one of the sales people there can put something together for you, odds are you will be motoring home in a Mini Cooper sooner then you think!!!!

Remember Economics class? Opportunity Cost: the cost of the next best alternative. It sounds like the next best alternative is waiting 2 years for a Cooper S at MSRP or driving all over the state on the weekends and waiting for a deal to fall through somewhere, buying a Mini Cooper should not be like following around the Grateful Dead for 6 months.

Happy Motoring!!!!

Vinnie

In answer to vinniebox ---dont take this bad --I love challeges

YES!!!I will buy
I have a good budget for a new car at near 25000$ or so and getting a cooper S at MSRP sounds good but all I wanted was the lesser model with auto trans --- and the only one near here that is willing to deal at MSRP is in salt lake city at Mini of Murray ---I emailed them and they offered me my build at MSRP + 300$ in state fees and thats it -- but all socal dealers all see the money and the "so called great car culture" down here. and make us pay for the "new thang " cars my next example is the other car one my list the subaru WRX at launch it was going for 3500$ over MSRP -- now you can get it for invoice becuse of dealer holdback on the car is the dealer profit ---remember that peeps MSRP= this
MSRP = dealer mark-up-- here is how that happens ---regular profit and a hidden dealer hold back- that MSRP= 2 hidden mark-ups per car at MSRP all for the dealer -- I know this I worked at a dealer in high school they all do it!
and the dealer does not pay for the cars till they are sold even though they are on the the lot they pay only part- this is called "flooring" so if they say they are looseing money to "buy" the cars they are not becuse they dont "buy" them they rent them till bought by us!!

sorry for telling the evil truth and letting the cats out I can go on for days on this but no need read here this guy tells all from the inside http://www.carbuyingtips.com

so lets see if the dealer in San Diego is up too the challege laid down I have 25000$ and I am looking to by a new car in oct early nov -- now jump!!!-----

edit--enter cliff here

JUMP!!!! FOOLISH DEALER JUMP

post any good dealer replies here I will read them all and answer any calls

Well these guys(Brecht) are definitely losers. I suppose they'll have to lower the price when the 2003's start rolling in.

Here's what I did to get my mini (2002 Chili Red S w/ black (yes, black) roof and bonnet stripes) 'cause I REFUSE to pay a mark-up. I was in Hawaii on a job. An ordererd mine at MSRP from the very friendly and professional folks at Mini of Hawaii. They even took a color change on my order and the addition of the NAV over the phone.

Is it a hassle to buy in Hawaii? No. Tax is 4%. R/T airfare $300, shipping for the 'lil DEVIL will be $800. AND I get another weekend in paradise with a bonafide HI sticker on the window as I begin my 50 state road trip.

is Vinnie actually Jason or a co-worker of Jason's at the dealership?? Sure sounds like it. They didn't leave any email address or any info in their bio.

Great selection? Of course they do... because nobody will buy their cars!!!! Common sense! I still hope this dealer chokes on their overstock of MINIs.

I have a problem with this whole thing. It seems that there are several dealers out there with more than a few cars sitting on there lot. There is not a dealer where I live but there are 3 within 2 hours drive none of them have any cars available at any price and a wait of at least 6 months to get one, maybe Mini needs to look at there quota system and make some adjustments. I ordered my car last month and will not get it until February.

Brecht MINI had a small ad in today's San Diego Union (the local newspaper for those not familiar with San Diego) which said they are offering 2.9% financing for qualified buyers and they have both models available for immediate delivery. Are other MINI dealers offering this?

Maybe they're trying to use the low rate to get rid of their large inventory of 2002 MINIs. I don't think it will look real good if they're still sitting on 2002s come December or January.

Just got back from a trip to Brecht Mini. Not impressed with the dealer or its policies. 10% markup for cooper, 15% for S, and to top it off, they won't let you test drive unless are ready to buy right then. Greedy bastards. I'll will be buying somewhere else. Anyone know of any dealers that are not marking up in the south-western US????

the local dealer here, North Scottsdale Mini sell cars that you order for sticker. I think they mark cars up quite a bit that they for some reason get on their lot, they where asking over $23K for a regular MC with what I could see not many options! They say they sell everything they get right away! They are nice and curtious to deal with when you are there but they are not good at returning emails!

I bought my Cooper S off the showroom in Scottsdale for MSRP. The ones that they are charging over list for are "used". It seems weird but they seem to have a policy of charging only list for new stuff but once they're used department gets hold of one the skys the limit. When I bought mine they steered me away from the used ones for that very reason.

Jason,

I hope you choke on your precious little minis. They seem to be good little cars, but the jury is still out on their quality. Why would anybody want to buy a car from you? Minis can be bought all over the country for MSRP. Wake up.

Come here to Michigan and visit Motor City Mini in Eastpoint, Michigan. Great salesman (David Green), nice service manager(he introduces himself when picking up the Mini) and paid MSRP.
