OOooo...I already have aux. gauges! No need for a JCW shift light either with the auto. It does look kinda cool though.

You have to tap into the Tach Signal wire leading to the tachometer..

Not to rain down on JCW at all, but does anyone know if this can be done by making yourself? I am curious from the people that have already purchased this if it is a circuit board that controls this and if so can this be done ourselves or do we have to pay a ton of money to get a nice feature? Just curious since I am a DIY typ eof person.
Thanks

Apparently the JCW light has at it's core a rather common circuit/display assembly due to the cylinder selection included in the DIP switch settings. JCW simply mounted this assembly in a custom housing to match the MINI interior and contours and supplied a harness and hardware to connect and install it. In this case, just about any similarly configurable aftermarket shift light can be installed using the connections given (power, ground and RPM signal).

If you know your way around electrionics it bet it is very possible to make oyur own, nothing more advanced than a garage door opener. Check out the PDF for the official install. If you beat me to it post a DIY procedure, this looks like if I can figure it out it could be a good weekend project, but first I need to fix my airbag issue.

Well I am a great DIY person but would love the assistance of someone helping me understand what parts are needed in order for this to work. I can then make a carbon fiber housing and I think the best place for it would be on the steering column itself. That is my plan as soon as someone helps me figure out what I need to make this. Thanks

Ive always thought about using one of the unused black circles in the rev counter (thats the best way i can describe it) Im sure i can place a small SMD on the circuit board and route wiring from that, into the existing wiring loom for that factory finish. Would look rather discreet, yet also close to the line of vision.

Hmmmmm

Morristown Mini sent the instructions and got it done in about 30 minutes. Very simple.

I gave it some thought and there are two place I can thing of that this would really work, in the rear view mirror, so you can see at as you leave folks in the dust and so when you're in the corners and it gets in the way you are a least able to check your revs w/out looking away or in the speedo ring drill out holes incrimentally around the speedo so as the need move the LEDs show the revs and all the info is in one spot for added bling factor w/ a co-pilot. I'm partial toward the first esp cause I have the manual dimming mirorr and no garage door opener up there, but the wire routing would be more difficult. Theres my input, this project will have to wait for me but maybe dow the road...
