JCW software

Anyone know how I can get my car flashed with the JCW software ? I would really like the software that is programmed for the bigger injectors.

Ask your dealer (service advisor).

Do you have a MCS with the JCW kit installed? If not, you may be introducing problems into the mix. The ECU is programmed for a specific engine profile (e.g. higher boost, larger capacity injectors, etc.). I doubt the dealer would be interested in flashing JCW software onto a non-JCW equipped MCS.

I tried the dealer and they didnt want to do it. I do have the larger injectors, more boost, ported head and cam, etc.... I would like th esoftware that is mapped for more boost and the larger injectors.

If I recall, your car has entered the 200 whp club with aftermarket (non-MINI/non-JCW) mods. The dealer basically doesn't want any liability for adding the JCW software and then if something fails, the burden of proof has shifted to the dealer to show that the addition of the JCW software did not cause the failure. You are probably better off resorting to something like the Unichip ECU. It (the Unichip) can be tuned to your specific set-up and also has provision for multiple tunes (e.g. one tune for 91 octane pisswater and another for 100 octane race fuel). To be honest, I think you would be better served by the Unichip. And no, I don't sell the Unichip, so I have nothing to gain from recommending it.

you are correct. I have an apexi also. I just wanted to start with the jcw software since its actually mapped for the 380 injectors and more power. Then we would tune it with th eapexi.

The dealer told me they didnt want to be responsible. No worries, I will get it done somewhere.

I have 2005 JCW software installed by a dealership (not going to say with one in order to protect the innocent) on my MCS with 15% pulley, IK22s, and alta intake. No injectors, no exhaust, no headwork, etc. You just have to find the "right" dealership.

Is this something you would suggest I try and do? I would love to get it done to mine if it offers any additional performance.

Actually the dealership's mechanics noticed my mods and suggested I get the software installed. The price was right, so I did. I don't know about performance increases via software, I did notice a change in drivability.

Dom, you have the same mods I do, what have you noticed? I was going to go Unichip with a larger intercooler. Any way you could reveal the $?

04 MCS, Sport pkg, 15% pulley, Alta CAI, Milltec exhaust, densos

Mostly just drivability changes. Launching in first gear no longer hesitated. Seemed "smoother". Still, since it's based on the v39.x, it has some of the herky jerkyness (see the thread I started on v39 issues).

Cost was very reasonable. Less than the cost of the intake!

Hmmm, sounds like if you have a newer release of ECU software (newer than v.39 at least), going with a Unichip might be the better route - you get the benefits of the baseline relase along with the enhancements of the Unichip.

I got v39.2 just after it came out (not much more than 24 hours after the CD arrived at the dealership). Then about 3 weeks later got the JCW, which, according to the dealer, is based on the v39.2. I first felt the jerkiness on the v39.2 install, prior to the JCW s/w install. See: https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...ad.php?t=33326 for more details on the time line

What's really interesting is that not all software affects cars in the same way. When some got v39, their car drove much better than before. Other peoples cars went to crap. Some people report having much more lenient traction control with the v39.2, others feel that v39 did not change the threashold for when the traction control came on (I think one person reported it got worse). Other found that a particular version got rid of their yo-yo, while others felt that getting that version gave them the yo-yo. So I think that not all cars are affected in the same way by particular software.

At this point, I'm not going to do any reflashes until I can feel assured it will be money well spent. So Unichip or any other chip flashes will have to wait.
