2022 Mini Cooper JCW

Hello Everyone,

I have been a member since forever. Always been a fan of the MINI but never got one. Every time we car shop we end up with some other cars. This year we finally got one! Loving the car so far!!! My first mod would be an sfactorfabrication front splitter. I'll update some pictures once I have the splitter on. In the meantime, I do have a question...

We bought the car used and only received one key fob. Apparently the previous owner only handed in one key fob. Spoke to the service department and they want $450 to get one ordered and programmed. I thought he was joking! Is there an alternative to getting a spare key? Can I buy a used one and re-program it myself or am I stuck paying $450 for a spare?

Thanks,
Ray

I would never buy a car (new or used with one key fob). But since you did, I would pay the $450 and get it done right the first time.

Didn't find out until I was ready to take home the car.

I think you will have to program both your key and your new key for security reasons. We lost a "smart" key (Audi) and they had to reprogram the old key.

I would have refused the car. Now you should make the old owner buy you one, and have them reprogrammed to not be coded to the lost one.

I damaged a fob in 2021, I think replacement cost me $320 w/tax from the dealer. Shop around maybe you can find it cheaper.
Congrad's on the car.

There's actually the keyfob part ($375) and actual key ($75). So $320+ tax is actually about right.

Press the dealer on this issue and see if they won’t at least split the cost.
