JCW 2021/2022 JCW Mini Questions
2021/2022 JCW Mini Questions
Hey guys, I'm new to the forum and am eagerly awaiting for my 2022 JCW Mini 2 door hardtop to be built (week 46 date). I have been doing as much research as possible to find answers to questions I have, however one thing that I'm still confused on is with the exhaust. This is for the US model.
Based on the threads I have read on this forum, it appears that the stock exhaust on the 2021/22 JCW Mini's do not have the usual pops and bangs and people are having to resort to aftermarket solutions.
However, what confuses me is when I see a youtube video of a US JCW model (
), it does have the pops and bangs. So what gives?
Question: When one configures a hardtop cooper S there is an option for a valved exhaust. The same option is not available for the JCW model. Does that mean the JCW already has the valved exhaust? If not, why isn't the option available for the JCW? Finally, If I want the same option would this be the correct P/N (ECS Tuning Link)?
My backup plan would be the NM Eng exhaust (NM engineering downpipe back system) - no bluetooth issues to worry about and cheaper it appears.
Many thanks!

But I dont think they cover 20121 models anymore.
Many thanks for the response! Indeed, it looks like the tune doesn't apply to the JCW but the exhaust should physically fit ok.
In any case, the pricing seems excessive and I might just stick to the NM exhaust solution if the stock JCW exhaust doesn't suffice. From all the stuff I have read and gathered it seems to be the case that in sport mode the pops and bangs are present with the stock JCW exhaust but just not as "loud" as with aftermarket exhausts. I'll just have to wait and see in person once it arrives.

You can buy the JCW Pro exhaust without the tune

https://www.ecstuning.com/b-genuine-...302407323~oem/
Call ECS, and check, also see if they can match the price
They dont state 2020 and 2021, but someone will chime in that it does fit the later years.

This is what that guys did on youtube:
"Ordered everything from ECS tuning. Exhaust: ecs tuning part: ES#: 2817357(manufacturer part #:11122359631)Carbon tips: ecs part #:ES#: 2837151(manufacturer part #:18302349677)The clamp I ordered to better secure the exhaust is listed in the video. That's really the only tip I have is to get that exhaust clamp. It's really pretty straight forward. You can find the dealer install instructions online which you may need when it comes to the wiring. Also a spray bottle of water with a little dish soap will help get the exhaust out of the rubber hangers. I didn't do the tune because i have a JCW already so the tune is pointless for me. It comes with everything you need though to have the dealer flash the tune if you have an S. My mini is a stick/manual. I have some more info in the description as well as a follow up video that also has more info in the description."
Last time i talked to the MINI dealer they said they could not flash this for 2020+ but maybe their is a work around now.

ECS, why recommend a pipe with tune, when the tune is useless? The JCW already has the tune, even the person in your quote states this, all he needs is the exhaust, and tips.

Thats what he did, just get the JCW one and don't do the tune. I just dont know if he got lucky with taking the flash for the key fob on the S version(with tune) verse the JCW version(no tune) software.

The "regular"JCW has a different exhaust than my JCW Clubman (as well as a different engine). Mine opens up a second port in the back that changes the sound (louder) in the Sport mode and it does have some pops when you let off the gas or it changes gears under acceleration.
