Spare Tire Suggestion
Spare Tire Suggestion
Hi,
I ordered a new 2022 JCW Countryman yesterday. In the meantime, I am researching on the spare tire options. I will use it for road trips. Of course, the most easiest way is to buy one (1) full size wheel. However, a space saver tire will be the best choice.
Any inputs, suggestions will be appreciated.
Thanks!
Daniel

Since you have a JCW, I'm assuming they still only come in AWD. I've been a bit concerned about running one wheel of a significantly different circumference, assuming (there's that word again!) that this causes difficulties with the AWD system.
Space savers are not even close to the same circumference. I bought new wheels/tires in the same circumference as OEM, and simply kept an OEM as my spare. Bought a scissor jack and modified the weld-clamp-holder to grab the "hockey puck" that fits into the cup on the jack points, put a 17 mm thin-walled, plastic-covered deep socket and ratchet in the under-storage area, and now can finally relax about having a flat and not having to worry about what to do.
Also, those space savers almost always ONLY fit over the rear brakes on a JCW. SO, if you have a flat front, you first have to jack up the rear and put your space saver on the rear. Then, take that rear tire and replace the front flat tire with that rear tire.
My spare is loaded face-down, so, I cleaned it up, and use the inside as my catch-all bucket (which used to be a milk crate) to hold my bike shoes, tools, gloves, etc. Although it takes up some room (compared to the milk crate), it's being used for multiple functions.
