Hi jcw crew, been a long time since I've posted. My clutch finally went out in my 2009 jcw. I am in the process of replacing the clutch with an os giken and doing a giken lsd while I'm in there. So I got the gearbox apart and the bottom shaft came out when I separated the halves. Question is, what is the best way to get this guy back in? I'm a transmission noob so forgive my ignorence, from a bit of googling it looks like maybe this is the reverse shaft? It has some what I think are synchro keys in the gear on the bottom which go into the hub sleeve. Should it take a bit of force to get the spring loaded ***** to depress? Or should the whole fork be taken out with the sleeve, put together and then dropped back in? For the life of me I can't even find an image on the web of the gear in question, all the diagrams just show the entire transmission. Thanks for any pointers!
Wish I had more advice, but I'm sure I will be doing this soon so I'm subscribing. Maybe hit up Mod Mini on Youtube if you don't hear from anyone here? That guy has saved my butt so many times with his videos.
Yeah I have watched his lsd video more than a few times. There are a few r53 gearbox tear downs out there but nothing on the r56, I have the Haynes manual and they don’t even mention anything beyond the clutch replacement. Will let you know if I figure it out.
Figured out a way to get it on. I removed the shifting mechanism and then the fork for that gear pops right out. Once out it's pretty easy to get it all back together .
Ugh, I saw your first post and thought “Suck!” Glad you figured it out.
This is why I much prefer manual transmissions. With any kind of me chin cal ability, you can tear the thing down and put it right back together. No wizardry here!
